This time around I mounted the P5N-E in my Antec P180 and used the optional mounting for a 120mm fan which blows directly on the video card from the front of the case. This also provides additional cool air for the memory and the cpu which has apparently helped. This case also has a top 120mm...
I found the Thermalright HR-05 SLI to cool the NB a little better than the rest but at more expense than just adding an fan to the existing NB heatsink which works OK and the HR-05 SLI has flimsy mounting solution but it does seem to work none the less.
Any low profile 40x40mm aluminum or copper heatsink will work. Here: http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/..._platinum/page_5.shtml in the last pic at the bottom of the page you can see the P5N-E with a generic blue aluminum heatsink on the SB attached with an thermal adhesive pad that keeps temps <50C...
It doesn't mainly because of the Vdroop and lack of support. But the other 650i's can.
But it is a fun board to fool with so I am just going to give the P5Ne another shot for that reason and because I have an OEM Vista OS attached to it that either I use it or lose it. Besides it does run good...
Still nothing has been done? Well, I'm getting ready to re-install my board and get 'er back up and running. It has been awhile, guess I will still be using the 202 bios if nothing much has been done as I do not see a need to update. I have been running MSI and EVGA 650i boards and exceeding...
From reading and limited experience, so far, I would have thought upping the frequency and loosening the timings on the ram would give better performance with the Intel chips. Interesting, your results with SuperPI seems to say the opposite. I am waiting on a NB heatsink replacement before I...
I upped the NV to 1.56V and ran Orthos. Lasted about 3 minutes before encountering an error.
Temps on NB jumped 5c from 42 to 47C. Just holding up on any more attempts until I can get the new heatsink. I don't think the stock heatsink is taking care of the temps sufficiently to run Orthos...
Core2 and Genuine Imitation
I don't have side ventilation on the P160 case but I have always had plans since getting the 7850 GX2 to install a 90 or 120mm fan in the side panel.
At max the NB does not exceed 42C and SB 47C at the present clocks. I obtain these readings with a Raytek...
I try to not get in a hurry when overclocking cause it usually leads to frustration or worse. I have the HR-05 SLI ordered from SVC but it will be late next week before it gets here. In the meantime I have a just a 40x10mm fan on the NB stock sink. Keeps it cool at a max of 42C so far...still...
My ram shows an SPD in CPUZ of 533MHz with timings of 5-5-4-12, 2T. Using these timings I have not upped the frequency on the ram and just left it at 800MHz while overclocking the E6600 to 9*367 (1468MHz) running at 3.3Ghz.
In the bios I have the Vcore set at 1.33750V, memory at 2.353V, and...
Thanks! Just wanted to make sure I was not reading something wrong. Not a frequent Super PI user and I am only using it as one source to help find the best performance range of this core.
I have taken my time with this board as it will be my primary gaming board and I of course I would like...
