HELP! New to SATA - Bought a P5W-DH

Something kind of feels slow about my system (e6400, 2x1gb corsair balistix DDR2-800, ASUS P5B-E, WD 250GB SATAII enterprise hard drive). It's not slow when I'm running something, but something about it feels slow. But I haven't changed my ram voltage from stock setting (~1.8v) to ram's...

HELP! New to SATA - Bought a P5W-DH

ASUS P5B-E, brand new system, first time I've put one together from scratch (I've installed OS's on other machines before though). 1st try: In Bios > Main > Configure SATA As, changed from [IDE] to [AHCI]. Downloarded drives, created floppy as instructed above. Tried to install windows...

HELP! New to SATA - Bought a P5W-DH

I went ahead and just tried ICH8R with the bios being set to ACHI before installing windows. The drive formatted and installed Windows (XP pro, sp2) and rebooted a couple times fine.

HELP! New to SATA - Bought a P5W-DH

The only feature I really want is the ability to plug and unplug an external SATA II hard drive at will. So I'm 90% sure I need AHCI. But I ran into a little snag. Do you set up AHCI in the bios first, or install windows first? I tried AHCI first, and didn't work. This is on a virgin...

I'm suspicious of the same thing. I just shelled out the extra cash and got them for piece of mind. Probably not the best buy, but whatever, I'm tired of stressing over it.

Yoxxy, why would you remove Super Tallent from the 6400 Midrange for not being D9 when you left Patriot there (which has been confirmed to no longer regularly be D9)? Cmdrdredd and Yreka, I think you both know what your talking about (and cmdrdredd has personally been a ton of help, thanks...

    Widescreen 1680 x 1050 LCDs

Speaking of Gateway, I don't hear much about their monitors online. Do they use consistent cores (unlike Dell)? Are they just pretty much re-hashes of another monitor? Or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Guys... isn't the pop-up issue a big off topic for this very long thread? I'd tell you weather or not I got a pop-up, but this isn't the place for such discussion IMO.

Ok, but it is Micron D9 none less. But does Shimmishim post about Super Talent not always using D9 mean that Ramlist may need to be updated with some non-micron versions for their T800UX2GC4?

Does that apply to T800UX2GC4? Because if so, I may well return them before I open the ones I just ordered. I know the T800UX2GC5 are not Micron. I got the T800UX2GC4 because I thought not only did they have Micron, but they used better than typical Micron (according to them being *ed on...

Yeah, your right about Patriot, I forgot. Sorry. I hadn't heard of the cas3 before. Kind of glad I all ready bought my ram so I don't have to worry about it :) Still though, it seems far from budget by any means at that price thought. Maybe it's just me. Guess if it's better to have...

Something for your computer repair toolbox

There is a way to connect the PS that comes with the Newer Tech version to a 2.5" notebook drive. It's pictured on their website (linked to previously), or in the manual you can download from their website.
