    Are you HONEST? Don't lie..

If you were to ask a person who always tells the truth or a person who always lies, you'll get the same answer.

    IBM 45GB ATA/100 7200 RPM $141

I haven't had a chance to compare the noise levels of all the drives, but the IBM is one of, if not the quitest 7200rpm drive I've seen. In any case, I've had no issues with mine (45gb 70gxp). It's fast, and it's doesn't get hot at all.

    Duron 600@800, ONLY 1.55v!!!! WOOOohooOo!!!!!!

What sort of temps are you getting (load and idle)

Duron 700@700 at 130F (55C) - too hot or not?

If the ambient air temp is high and/or you don't have good cooling (circulation) in your case, I wouldn't be surprised. 55 is a tad on the hot side, esp. for a 700 Duron (I hope that isn't the idle temp though). Are you using any sort of thermal interface? Keep in mind that AMD doesn't...

Do you think the Dreamcast has the horsepower to play DivX movies?

The SH4 that is in the Dreamcast is a very efficient cpu IMO. In particular, it has a very good FPU. From the figures I've seen, at 200 MHz, it's probably about half as powerful (for floating point ops) as a decent (~800 Mhz) Pc processor. Given properly optimized software, the Dreamcast...

Question: Do ATA100 cables work on ATA 66 peripherals?

I don't think that ATA-100 cables per-se exist. You're supposed to use the same cables you would for ATA-66 (80 pin because the other ones, while they would techincally work, will probably not work well due to signal noise problems)

AMD ? any sotfware issues ????

The current crop of AMD processors are excellent, but while chipsets for these are doubtlessly superior to those from the AMD socket 7 days, there is still much to be desired. IMO, I would stay away from AMD chipsets for now as the 750 (although I'm sure you won't get a mb with this) has had a...

do i need a bigger power supply?

I also notice that you only mentioned 1 case fan. With all those parts in there, you should have at least 1 exhaust fan (I'm assuming that fan in the front of the case is intake) to help cool everthing down. Some 7200rpm drives contribute a fair amount of heat as would two processors and that...

    Erratic NIC performance

Fortunately, or unfortunately, this is not the problem. This was my initial hunch, but it was the first thing I ruled out. Very often, I access sites that are very close to me (physically) that I have traced before (not more than 6, 7 hops away says tracert), and that consistently ping under...

ASUS A7V IDE Crazyness <--headache inducing, bring advil

Because of the way IDE works, it would be much better to put your other drive on it's own channel ((3) instead of (2)). Seeing that you have more than enough channnels to spare, I don't know why you would want to start cramming multiple devices on channels. If you decide to get a third optical...

Help: Fan broke on my GeForce

If you're talking about an original Geforce (256), then you really should get a replacement. This chip dissapates a lot of power and thus runs very hot. Later versions (MX, GF2, et al) use a different process which runs a lot cooler. You really should get a replacement fan (there are quite a...

do i need a bigger power supply?

Wow, you have a lot of stuff in there. Some of those things are real PS stressers too. Are you sure you don't want a 400 W PS?

    Problem with Duron, A7v, CDR

Thanks for the info. Funny this should be true, because in the manual, instructions are given on how to enable DMA, and there is even a picture showing DMA enabled. I really would like to be able to run the drive this way because of the decreased CPU utilization.

    Erratic NIC performance

Does anyone have any experience with a Realtek (8139b) based NIC? I bought one (Trendware TE100-PCIWN) because it was relatively cheap, and I have found it to be an erratic performer, mediocre at best. Often, something will crap out on me when I am browsing the web, and it will take a long...

    Problem with Duron, A7v, CDR

I have been trying to enable DMA for my CD writer (Yamaha 8x8x24 IDE). It is not working because DMA must be disabled in the Bios (1004c) for the computer to recognize the drive. Whever I try to enable any (Ultra) DMA mode, I get an error saying that the drive fails. The drive is the Master...
