buy.com has the IBM Deskstar 45GB EIDE Ulatra ATA/100 7200 RPM 75GXP drive for $170.95. Use the $30 off $150 coupon which expires tomorrow (Friday 12/15/00) to bring the price down to $140.95. Shipping is free. Go thru shoppin.net or ebates to get an even bigger savings. There was a similar thread on this deal a few days ago, but it was for Onvia which is around $150.

Good thing you have a direct link to this product.
I've been trying to look for this drive by browsing buy.com and it doesn't show up. The 30, 60, and 75 gigs are displayed though.

Thanks.

Buy.com may have a warehouse in your state. If they have property or payroll in your state they have "nexus of business" which compels them to collect sales tax (there is a much more detailed and accurate description of this that I won't bore you with).

Far as taxes go, I'm in Washington...gotta pay tax on Onvia stuff...bummer.

Also, Good ole TurboTax is taxable in any state as they said and I quote, "...everyone pays taxes, so we have a presense in all states...." I sighed when I heard this....but oh well.....

I haven't had a chance to compare the noise levels of all the drives, but the IBM is one of, if not the quitest 7200rpm drive I've seen. In any case, I've had no issues with mine (45gb 70gxp). It's fast, and it's doesn't get hot at all.

IBM drives are fast, quiet, and stays cool. The GXP75 are the drives to beat. Any drive that can beat it is really good. 7200rpm ide of course

cool~ =)

is there anyway to get the 45GB drive for even a lower price than the $149 with Onvia and the $141 posted here? with all the fellow awesome deal seekers I think there's probably some way that i don't know about

NCTiger,

My friend has both the 45GB IBM and Maxtor Drive. IMHO, the Maxtor is quieter and cooler.

Based on various HD tests (Including HD Tach), the IBM is a somewhat faster drive...

More importantly, the IBM write times are near it's read times. The Maxtor suffers badly here...I have this Maxtor drive too....Read's are averging around 35+MB/s(if I remember right) but the writes are in the 12-15MB/s range...far less than IBM.

So if writing to HD is important to you, stay with IBM. Otherwise, Maxtor's are nice and cheaper.

MY Two Pesos...
