Combination of 802.11b (upgrading to 802.11g) and a proprietary UN-II solution.

My guess would be an Access Server. They make boxes that are just nothing bu modems, but I am gonna be a wireless ISP. No modems here.

    CAL

E-mail\anti-SPAM\anti-Virus from Vircom. I heard over and over that they have the best anti-SPAM. I saw some other Windows-only software, but I can't remember what it was.

    CAL

The software I have been told to use, and I have seen rave reviews are offered on Solaris and Windows. I'm not about to drop the money to go Sun. I am now think, actually, about a Linux\Windows combination. For the things I need Windows for, put it on a Windows server, but keep the rest on Linux.

    CAL

I wanted to use Linux, but a lot of the recommended programs are on Windows, and not Linux. The people in the ISP discussion list I am in haven't had a problem with Windows. I am assuming it's just another of those Linux is better than Windows for no apparent reason deals.

    CAL

Does anyone know if IIS, DHCP, DNS, etc. require CALs? I was wanting to start up an ISP, but I don't wanna buy hundreds of CALs.

    Dynamic Drives

I have Win2k Server installed. I have 2 hard drives setup as dynamic disks. I have 5gb out of each drive for system [-peep-], and then all the rest is a spanned volume. Would formatting the 2 system drives and re-installing Win2K Server mess up the Spanned drive?

    Asus A7M266-D

I am looking at an Asus A7M266-D. I am also looking at Dual Duron 1300s. Obviously neither Asus, nor AMD are gonna answer this truthfully. I read on Tom's Hardware that the board can't run Dual Durons. Comments made in another topic lead me to believe that this will work fine. Any input...

    Tyan 2507 Dual celeron?

I just found out that a Duron 1300 is only $10 more than the Celeron 566. I also found the Asus A7M266-D for like $50 more than some no name deal. I have changed my plan of action.

    Tyan 2507 Dual celeron?

I was looking at setting up a Dual Celeron 566 system on a Tyan 2507 board. I read one place that said I couldn't run dual celerons on that. Another place said I could. Could anyone clear this up for me?

    Wireless gain and distance info

I have been looking into 802.11a and 802.11b equipment. Are there any resources out there where I can find out what relationship watts output, gain, and distance have with each other. Obviously more watts\gain, more distance, but what kind of equations are there to figure out range based on...

    Items needed for WISP

I forgot what watt output the 36db was at. I have a link somewhere about it. Isn't that the point of the unlicensed spectrum that contains 802.11b and 802.11g? If using properly constructed antenna and radios, interference to other bands should not be a problem. I am assuming the FCC did...

    Items needed for WISP

I am aware of all kinds of other business paper work I need. I was under the assumption that I could use up to 36db of total gain.

    Items needed for WISP

Not for things using 802.11a or 802.11b. There are spectrums out there that require licenses. I do believe that they deliver higher speeds, but at a higer cost (well, you can't get much lower than free.)
