The email I got from Microsoft said they were extending the deadline for receiving (or postmark of) the w-9 until March 15th.

I got mine both in one envelope yesterday. I had some trouble faxing my w-9 in, but once I got through to them it took less than two weeks.

Auric, all of your points are valid. There's certainly better deals to be had for drives with a 3+ year warranty, so this one is only lukewarm in that context.

The serial is SOMUJ13P1xxxxx, and I'm certain I didn't enter it wrong. I suppose it's possible they don't have some of them in their DB yet. It would be nice if it was longer than a year, but I don't really care all that much.

Hey guys, I got mine today and tried to check the warranty here but it says the serial number format is not recognized. I guess there's still no definitive proof of the warranty length, so use your own judgement.

Best Buy has the 2007 version on sale this week for $100. If the 2007 version truly has a more sensitive receiver, then maybe it's worth the extra $25. Nice find on this version though. I almost bought it at this price a couple months ago, but couldn't justify it.
