need help & resources for setting up LAN

That is one of the main purposes for having a router. The router handles the internet connection so your computer doesn't have to. Added advantage is that with NAT firewall, router blocks out a lot of junk from outside, router assigns internal IPs to your network, so outsiders can't see...

cleaned case with no avail. athlon at 67C. (found out my heatsink is THE problem)

I don't know what kind of power supply you have but a higher quality psu made a big difference in my idle case temps. I replaced my stock power supply with an Enermax Whisper 350W psu and temps went down almost 10 dgrees. I believe this is because the enermax has a big intake AND exhaust fan...

What's a good 16X DVD ROM Drive to get?

I got the Lite-On 16X recently... it's not the quietest dvd-rom but performance (ripping, reading) is very satisfactory... can't go wrong for under 40 bucks...

    Looking for some expert advice

I agree with the other posters: those "innovations" don't amount to much... meaning the way those innovations affect the performance of your system are almost negligable. Personally, I would never spend $2k for a system, much less $3k but that is just me. It's best to build yourself, but you can...

my friend's laptop keyboard is broken!!!

I have a Dell Lattitude at work and the exact same problem happened with me... where the 8,i, k, ,keys don't work kinda going down a line. Whats worst with me though was the Delete key (of all the keys) also did not work and I was running Win NT. Ctrl+Alt+Del is required to login to system...

Better PSU for an OC'd 1.6a?

I've heard Antec and Enermax are both great quality power supplies. I have an Enermax 350W power supply and I'm not disappointed. I like the fact that the Enermax has gold-plated connectors and nicely tube-tied cables... haven't had exp with Antec though... although I've heard good things about...

built an old gaming computer. need some autoexec.bat and config.sys tweaks

Dude star control 2 and sam & max were some of the best games! Star Control 2... those programmers put so much time/effort into making that game replayable... and Sam & Max was one of the funniest games ever, laugh out loud funny...

What are the symptoms of a processor that is too hot

The symptoms of an Athlon processor overheating are typically automatic shut off (bios enabled) and system hangs/crashes. These hangs/crashes may affect Windows bootup and may lead to blue screens.

    Excessive Idle Temps XP 2100+ / A7V333

Dude i had similar high temp problems such as yours and i've systematically lowered my temps from 51/64 (idle/load) degrees to 41/52 degrees. What made a big diff for me was replacing the the crappy stock 300w power supply with an Enermax 350W supply. The reasoning? The Enermax has two fans...

Athlon XP 2200+. How hot is too hot?

I have had similar problems as yours with my temps but I replaced my stock power supply on my evercase with an Enermax 350W psu... pleasant surprise... not only did my case and cpu temps come down around 10 degrees, but it's a lot quieter too...

Why am I running around 75 degrees CELSIUS???

i too have the evercase, and i don't know if you have the stock power supply, but i replaced my pwr supply with an Enermax 350W, and not only did it lower my case and cpu temps by about 10 degrees, but it was a heck of a lot quieter as well. hope this helps... the pwr supply made a big...

    Thoughts on Evercase ECE4252?

IMO the construction of the Evercase is decent, walls are thick and quite heavy compared to other cases in its price range. However, I would recommend getting a better power supply for it, I'm replacing mine with an Enermax.

    Cooling questions/cooling my system

Yeah 350W pwr supply should be plenty enough for your system, assuming you ain't gonna chain a bunch of SCSI drives...you have a mid-tower case, you should be fine. I just ordered an Enermax 350W for my system.
