Why am I running around 75 degrees CELSIUS???

I have an Abit Kr7A with an alpha pal 8045 and the silencer 80mm fan all in that evercase found here with 2 case fans... y am i running at around 75 degrees celsius, around 170 degrees fahrenheit.. am i doing somethhing wrong??? i connected the heatsink with that artic silver 3... so wut da deals?? wut am i doing wrong????

My guess is maybe you have the Alpha's hardware stacked up wrong so it's jacking up the heatsink and not getting full contact. Only use the stepped washers in the motherboard holes if the step fits inside the hole. If not, then use flat ones. On the four screws, put on two flat plastic washers, then the spring, then another flat plastic washer, and put it in the heatsink.

edit: also, could the heatsink be hanging up on a capacitor or something?

Also, what program is giving you the temperature readings? Compare to the BIOS for a reality check.

actually, it is the bios that i'm getting the reading from... didn't use the step washers, just the flat ones to be safe... and only used 2 washers on the screws, not 3 like you recommended... now, the HS fits fine, but i had to turn it 180 degrees to get it right, might this cause the problem?

How hot does your heatsink feel when it's running?

I'm thinking the 180-degree turn might be causing it. The heatsink has a "step" cut into one end of the base that allows it to clear the cambox on the end of the CPU socket. If the non-stepped end of the heatsink hangs over the cambox at all, it may be jacking up the heatsink on that end so you have bad contact between the CPU core and the heatsink. That would be sure to cause high temperatures. Look and see if the heatsink touches the cambox at all, this would probably be the problem.

Also, the more washers are on either end of the spring, the further it's compressed and the more force it can exert to compress the corner pads on the CPU (this is good). So you might want to add the remaining flat washers on one end of the spring to increase the force.

ok, i'll try to remount using more washers, but can't do anything about the 180 degree turn, it fits perfect anyway, and won't wit any other way.,.. hmm.. is the KR7A not compatible with the alpha??? dangit...

According to Alpha's fit list here, it does fit your board. What interference are you getting when it's on the intended direction?

Also, please look at the end of the SocketA where the locking lever swivels. Is the base of the CPU cooler touching the plastic cambox? The base of the heatsink must touch only the CPU core and the four cornerpads on the CPU, or it will be unable to make square contact with the CPU core, and you will have high temperatures or worse.

The top section has a step milled into it, so it can hang over the cambox without touching it. The edge of the 8045 that's resting on the countertop in that photo would need to be at the bottom when it was mounted on your KR7A. Hope that helps...

ok, checked everything... redid everything, now i'm running at a constant 61 degrees... so... i'm still about 10 degrees higher than normal... now what???

i too have the evercase, and i don't know if you have the stock power supply, but i replaced my pwr supply with an Enermax 350W, and not only did it lower my case and cpu temps by about 10 degrees, but it was a heck of a lot quieter as well. hope this helps... the pwr supply made a big difference in my case...
