Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

MC deals are indeed insane and not representative of prices available to most buyers. Besides that, when Zen5 launches it will likely get its own bundle deals at MC so we can't compare those prices now. At most U.S. retailers, the 7800X3D is $370 and the 7700X is $285-$330. The point being made...

I think that's where you took a wrong turn.

Article Analysis: How much should GPUs cost vs. inflated "market" prices

That analysis makes me feel a bit better about my 7800XT purchase in December. Glad I didn't "overpay" by historical standards too much.

    8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

100% There have been multiple times I've used hi-res texture packs in games (mainly Bethesda) and the GPU wasn't challenged much more but the VRAM took a big hit. Some low-VRAM cards just weren't up to the task even though the GPU was more than capable.

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

I mean I get your sarcasm, some people will complain no matter what. For the past couple gens, Intel has had great performance (at least on desktop) but efficiency has been rather subpar. So if ARL-S brings major efficiency gains, that will be excellent. I think the sentiments about ARL-S being...

Discussion Intel Meteor, Arrow, Lunar & Panther Lakes Discussion Threads

For what it's worth, the SPEC delta isn't that big so, depending on your use case, ARL-S may have to bring more to the table than you're estimating. 1T Performance RPL v Zen 4 (source Anandtech) SPECint2017 : +2.8% (on average over 10 sub-tests) SPECfp2017: +5.6% (on average over 12 sub-tests)

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I think that's why @Panino Manino put that in quotes. There are some people who listen to the hype and then are disappointed in AMD because reality isn't as awesome as the rumors (rather than being disappointed in the rumormongers themselves).

Meaning Zen5 won't be enough to carry the torch when Lunar Lake arrives or AMD will just be in between product launches?

Question are video card prices headed down yet?

Affirm does show a finance charge on most of their literature and statements but it must be the finance charge if paid according to the payment plan you set up. I set mine up for 3 payments over 3 months. However, when I made the payment, the finance charge was dropped off and I only paid the...

Question are video card prices headed down yet?

Actually just used that Affirm coupon a couple days ago and then paid off the loan a day or two later and had no finance charge. Just FYI for those considering the Newegg deal.

Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

Of the Nvidia vs AMD lineup, the 4070 vs 7800XT is probably the closest price-wise. Basically 5-10% slower in raster but better upscaling and RT performance. 7% higher price isn't bad at all for the extra Nvidia features (as long as you don't run into a VRAM issue as igor mentioned). Can you...

If you don't mind me asking, what video card did you get?

Poll: Do you care about ray tracing / upscaling?

If the features are free, sure. But I believe the original questions was asked with relation to the cost of those features. One cost is the extra money you pay for an Nvidia card equal in raster performance which is currently 15-30% higher depending on what tier you're looking at. Another "cost"...

    AMD 7800 / 7700 reviews

Ya, I should have given in. 😄 I'm on a business trip near Kansas City the next couple weeks. I'll have to see if the MC in Overland Park gets anything in stock.
