Here's the current status: After disabling C&Q in CoreCenter and in the BIOS, my idle temp is hovering around 48c. Full load is at 55c. Full load is 2 sessions of Prime95, with processor affinity locking each instance to one core. Thanks for all the help, it seems that I'm making progress!

VCore as reported in the BIOS (not Windows) is 1.24v. Are you suggesting it should be something different? When I run CPU-Z, it shows my revision as JH-E6. When I did the CPU swap I did a complete reset back to factory defaults in the BIOS, and started from there. BIOS version 1.90...

I don't think it's the BIOS. I was using the same BIOS version with the Venice, and it was reporting the more realistic temps. Actual temp in the room right now is 25.6c (78.1f), and the external LCD on my case is reporting an internal temp of 33c.

Hi - I swapped a Venice 3200 for a x2 3800. Same MB, RAM, hard drives, case etc. The only difference was the CPU and the HSF. The Venice is using a Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu. The x2 is using the stock HSF that came in the box from AMD. I could OC the Venice by 250 mhz, and the CPU temp...

Thanks for the advice. After looking around at options, I did decide on the Zalman CNPS 7000 cu. Just placed the order, should be here Tues or Weds, so I'm hoping it makes a difference in the cpu temp before the summer heat gets here.
