Hi - I have a KT7A-Raid mb, with 4 hard drives hooked up to it. I'm not using the raid functionality, but I do have 2 drives hooked up as normal IDE on the raid controller.
Athlon XP 1700 processor, 512meg PC133 ram, no overclocking
Here's the problem - Under Windows 2000, anytime I put a significant load on the PC (such as the SETI app), it would blue screen. Sometimes it happened at random while I was using the PC. I reformatted, and reinstalled (it had been about 18 months anyhow, and it was time), and the problems continued. I should mention that I always installed the VIA drivers, latest versions.
Since I was at wits end, I decided to try WinXP Pro. Much to my surprise the system is now rock solid. However I haven't installed ANY drivers (except Matrox video), so everything is using the default stuff that comes with WinXP.
Am I really missing anything by not using the VIA drivers? I can live with a small performance loss, as long as this thing stays stable. I'm afraid to install the VIA stuff since everything is working now.
Opinions?
Thanks!
