The T30 is just as sturdy as the T40, the only difference is the T40 is sleeker (flatter) while the T30 is larger in width. But i'll go with the T41 as I suggested to someone else, becasue the added benefit besides the sleek design is u get the HDD active protection software + hardware.
IBM all the way, I mean the T41 is a superb and sleek machine. Plus you'll get the most vital ThinkVantage technology with it. I'm talking about the HDD Active Protection Software, go to ibm.com and check it out.
IBM makes the best Thinkpads in the world and their service is outstanding if I might add. I'm from South Africa (Cape Town) and I must say the service I received from the Cape Town Service Centre is always very professional and speedy.
So for all of you that don't know, now you know.
Just check to see if your hdd gets detected immediately in the POST, press ESC at POST if you got a logo. The IDE devices are checked last, so it could be that it's checking for the HDD and that's why it's taking so long. The HDD could be defective.
Check your memory first, don't waste your time checking cables and cd-rom. If the setup prog is at the point with the blue background and yellow status bar, and telling you it cannot copy certain files, check the memory.
