Strange start up problem

For about the past two weeks when I first boot my system in the morning I get no video signal and the system won't post. If I try to power off and start it right away the same thing happens but if I let it set for 5 or 10 min then power it off and start it again it will work just fine. The first couple of times it happened it did give a sort of weird multi colored patterned video picture but now just a blank screen. Any ideas?

It's the main rig in my sig.
Thanks,

I had a similar problem with a system. Every few times when I powered it on, it would not post. The system was fine for over a year, and all the sudden this started to happen. The bios settings were default and it was never overclocked. I suggest you check the bios seetings first and make sure everything (PCI cards, RAM, connectors) are pushed in all the way.

In my case the fans start spinning, but no beeps, no video. My first though was the video card so I swapped that out. Problem still existed. Then I thought it was the power supply, so I swapped that out. Problem still existed. Then the RAM, then the mobo, then case case...at this point I the only hardware installed was the new motherboard, new video card, new RAM with a new power supply in a new case with 1 year old AMD CPU...lastly I swapped out the CPU and then it was fine.....I ened up selling that box and built an Intel system...:)

I haven't had time to open it up and check all the connections so I'll do that. It is interesting that you mention the cpu I just upgraged to a Barton a couple of weeks before this started happening.

Wanted to bump this up one more time. I've been busy and haven't had time to open the case and check everything yet. Anyone else have any ideas of what the problem might be?

Just went to turn it on and nothing. Pulled the cover off and it gives me a code 26 on the MB display most of the time. A couple of times it went to a code 56 both which the manual states are reserved?? Anybody got an idea? I haven't reseated the CPU yet unless someone knows what the codes are for I'll try that next. :disgust:

Thanks

look up your mobo manual online.

then start reseating things. I'd do RAM and PCI first cuz it's easier and less delicate than CPU

I think its a problem with the Epox motherboard and ati. I think the code 26 means it can't find the card or no monitor. I would reseat the vid card and clear the cmos.

Well it's running again, pulled VC and memory. Still had a h3ll of a time getting it to boot. Seems like rather that having to let it "warm up" now it had to sit for a while and cool down

I think it's time to order a new VC card and MB.
