please, help needed...

I have just bought an Inspiron 8600 Pentium M with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 but it does not work correctly. When I install the drivers for the grafic card there are several problems. Windows XP Home cannot start the graphic card and when I try to change resolution, colors etc... the screen become black (but Windows is still running). I reset the computer and then when it loads the drivers the screen become black again although Windows is running in the background. no way. The only way to logon Windows is to do it in VGA mode. What can be the problem? Any solution? Thanks...

Did you install the standard Catalyst drivers from ATI, or are you using the ATI drivers from Dell? I may be mistaken, but I think the ATI mobility drivers are different somehow than the standard desktop drivers.

did you set the screen resolution to something higher then can be displayed?

in safe mode try adjusting the resolution

I have tried both drivers, the dell one and the catalyst but I get the same issue. If I start windows in vga mode I cannot change anything from the display properties panel because when I click ok the screen become balck (even if I change only colors in a 640x480 resolution).

Seems like you might have a corrupt graphics chip on that card or the memory might be faulty, try another card if you can find one somewhere.
