What the heck is going on here? (BIOS problem?)

I can't flash the BIOS, because I can't get past the checksum error in the POST. (this occurs before the floppy disk will boot.) Still stuck in the loop of automatic shutdown, followed by powerup for about three seconds, ad nauseum... Please, can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Man, I could use some troubleshooting help! Stuck on new hardware...

SOLVED Actual problem: CPU was not seated correctly. Solution: re-seat CPU so much for "ZIF", I had to gently push the CPU into the socket. I have never had to do anything but drop the CPU into a fully opened ZIF socket and then close it, but this time it required approximately.000000001...

Man, I could use some troubleshooting help! Stuck on new hardware...

halkebul, Arcanedeath, and MadRat: First, thanks for taking the time to try to help me. Tried the mobo out of the case. No change. The V7100 has the notches of a 1.5v card, and is rated as a AGP 1x,2x,4x card. I could find nothing on the web that states conclusively that it IS a 1.5v card...

Man, I could use some troubleshooting help! Stuck on new hardware...

Just got the following stuff, and I am scratching my head trying to figure out why I can't get it set up. (I have built quite a number of computers, but that doesn't mean I didn't miss something stupid!): Chieftec case w/450 watt PS (DX01WD SPX2 U2F 450W) Albatron PX845PEV Pro motherboard P4...

    "Swiss Army Knife" computer suggestions

OK, now I know the "Gigabyte P4 Titan" is a series of Motherboards. The GA-81DXH supports SDRAM; the GA-81RXP is the DDR board that got the Gold from AnandTech. Anyone out there love or hate the GA-81DXH? Thanks, -Dennis

    "Swiss Army Knife" computer suggestions

virtuamike and knutp: Thanks for the reply. The last dozen or so boxes I have built for myself or family members have all been powered by AMD. I have gotten so used to the "best-bang-for-the-buck" being AMD that I have not even considered an Intel chip in a long, long time. However, now that...

    "Swiss Army Knife" computer suggestions

Woody419: Thanks for the reply. I'm on a small (3 node) network with a tape backup on the server, and DSL modem (which I get to via the Lan NIC.) One node is my Win98se box, one node is my NT4 box. I need these for software development and to test completed custom software applications that I...

    "Swiss Army Knife" computer suggestions

I am looking at building a new box to be a "Swiss Army Knife" (do everything) computer. This box will (hopefully) perform multimedia creation functions as well as function as a software development box. I need "stability, stability, stability", like a smart home buyer needs "location, location...

NT4 can't find my NIC. (Update: fixed)

Solved. The solution involved editing the registry to remove incorrect installation info from a failed attempt at installing the NIC, and I also applied SP5 to NT4 (which I mistakenly thought I had already done.) Thanks for the help! Dennis

    Holy Muslims, help us out!

Please spread the word through the world's Muslims: Anger can be good when tempered by love. Anger can spark an individual or a group or a nation to effect positive changes. Anger without love is like a disease that can consume an individual, spread to a group, and infect a nation. Anger...
