What the heck is going on here? (BIOS problem?)

New computer, not yet completely set up (No OS yet, HDD not FDISKed or formatted yet)
  • BIOS: Phoenix Award 6.00PG
  • Chieftec case w/450 watt PS (DX01WD SPX2 U2F 450W)
  • Albatron PX845PEV Pro motherboard
  • P4 2.4Gb
  • Speeze CPU fan (9T207B1H3G)
  • 2 sticks Kingston 512 MB 333Mhz PC2700 DDR RAM (KVR333X64C25/512)
  • Western Digital 120Gb HDD (WD1200JB)
  • Teac FDD
  • Pioneer DVD/CD drive (DVD-117)
  • and an old Asus AGP V7100 video card

The Problem:

When I initially fire it up, BIOS POST correctly reports the RAM and identifies the primary master (WD 120Gb) and secondary master (Pioneer DVD) drives. Then, I get:

"CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded"

"F1 to continue - DEL to enter setup"

If I press DEL, and go into BIOS setup, no matter what I do (no changes, load system defaut settings, load system turbo settings, load CMOS from BIOS) and then save and exit, the system then cycles through auto shutdown, power up for 3 seconds, auto shutdown, power up for 3 seconds... infinite loop

The one other option available in BIOS "Save CMOS to BIOS" is one I have not tried, because logically, if I have a checksum error in the existing CMOS, I wouldn't want to write that to the BIOS.

or, if I hit F1 to continue, I get:
"Initializing MBA, press ctrl+alt+B to configure..." (then system hangs) I don't know mush about MBA other than that it is the Managed PC Boot Agent. I tried changing the boot sequence in BIOS, but the changes are not being written.

No changes that I have made to the BIOS (even changing the current date) are being written.

What the heck is going on? How do I proceed? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Dennis

I can't flash the BIOS, because I can't get past the checksum error in the POST. (this occurs before the floppy disk will boot.)

Still stuck in the loop of automatic shutdown, followed by powerup for about three seconds, ad nauseum...

Please, can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Did you try Clearing the BIOS?
Make sure you remove the Power from the PC when doing so.
