Zuni,

Just curious, what kind of hardware are these forums on? We've got vBulletin running, and at max have about 400 people online, and the current server we've got isn't cutting it. I'm just curious about performance of cold fusion & fusetalk vs vBulletin and MySql/Php.

Thanks,
Alex

It's all in the article on the the servers behind Anandtech, you can assess it from the main page. I think it's 2 dual 500 Xeon's or something like that.

i find it interesting thta quite a few people complain about the speed of the forums. i am on a 56k dial up connection (in australia to make matters worse) and the anandtech forums load just as fast as any other page, if not faster. i have no complaints at all.

Paulson that is your end that is causing that since the forums are in a cluster and haven't went above a 2-4 tenths of a second processing time since the cluster was created.

BigBigsavings, anandtech forums were run by a dual xeon 550. Now its a dual xeon 550 and a thunderbird 1ghz in cluster. Anands forums are amongst the busiest on the forums. With nearly 2 million messages in the db and a user base approaching 35,000 it performs well in my opinion. Hope that helps.

A bit of a late reply, but the reason I was asking is because we are having a lot of trouble with our servers as it is, and our forum is not nearly as busy as Anandtech. We peak out at about 400 users online at once, and our last server (p3-600 with 256 megs of ram) couldn't handle it. We upgraded to a dual p3-600 with 512 megs of ram and scsi drives over the last 2 days, so performance should be improved and there is still much tweaking to do. If we can get this server to perform even half as well as the Anand forum server(s), I'd be extremely happy. Anyone know how to tweak mysql/php3 to the max? :)

This forum software is well worth it. I'll say that much. The software the forums were running on before couldnt cut it. This stuff is awsome.
