Zune Vs Ipod - which is better??

I need to get a gift for my Girlfriends birthday (November 17th) and Im vaccilating whether I should buy her the Zune or the Ipod. Zune is brand new so who knows if it will work as well as an Ipod, but it seems to have better features. Longer battery life, wifi, etc.

What do you think is going to become more popular? Whats a better product?

For a girl, definitely get an iPod.

But on the topic of the post I don't think there will ever be an mp3 player will sell as well as the iPod.

I'm nearly 100% Ipod will outsell the Zune this Christmas, but that doesn't mean it's better. Fact of the matter is 1) I don't know which one is better, and 2) It's purely subjective and based on what features you value.

I don't know what is to like about the Zune. Its a Microsoft DRM platform. Its wireless is pretty much useless. It ugly. Its big.

Its not ugly and its only marginally bigger than an Ipod. You forgot to mention it has a bigger screen. I have no problem with DRM.

The $15 a month allows you to have the music on 3 pcs/xbox 360s and two zunes.
 
I'd take the ipod nano. That is my choice but I don't see an option for it.

The Zune looks nice but I have not seen it in action.
 
Well I watched the engadget interface video. Looks pretty nice however.

1) I'd love to see how the hell the guy is scrolling (it does not show his hands) This is really important to me. In fact, I base buying on this.
2) I see you can't replace the battery. Surprise surprise. I won't buy something that expensive if you can't replace the battery. I have a cheap refurb nano that I don't expect to last forever.
 
iPod is seriously hated on by some of the members on this forum. For the price it is an awesome music and video player.
 
is this even a question? zune is unproven, ugly, and frankly has no must have features. ipod is highly desirable sexy easy to use and a great present. if she shows her zune around...her friends will be like wtf? the only people to buy a zune for are true apple haters and geek friends who also hate apple for some reason. no one else would really want one. besides steve balmers children who apparently are banned from having ipods.

The ONLY thing Apple and Ipod have going for it is the marketing that makes the Ipod chic. It just goes to show people think shiny = pretty. The Zune isnt ugly, but to each his own. The Software interface on Zune is better than the Ipods. Period. And give me a fuggin break, the Zune is only marginally bigger than the Ipod.

As for people that keep knocking the WiFi feature, its extremely likely MS will offer a firmware update that expands its capabilities sometime in the first half of 2007. Videos/Movies will probably start appearing on Zune Marketplace around the same time as well.
