My 1st generation Zune has a habit of resetting when I shift either into or out of Park in my car. I have it plugged into the Aux jack in the center console. Has anybody else run into this issue?

Yes the mp3 player reboots. It is fairly consistent, probably 80% of the times I shift into/out of park causes the mp3 player to reboot. The only thing plugged in is the audio cable into the AUX on the car.

I would open the central console and check if your shifter is interfering with any of the electrical wires. Engage your shifter in all positions and check the linkages.

Yes to both

Weird. If you have old headphones laying around, you could rip the cord apart and connect the ends to a voltmeter or something. A surge of power from the aux jack into the mp3 player might be enough to reset it.

source: I once touched the modem on a computer and the static discharge caused the computer to restart. It was an old Apple PowerPC

This is what I think is happening, just curious if anybody else has seen this occur. I really should have gotten this looked at while my car was under warranty.

I had it open the other day for a different reason and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary.

Im not too worried about it because it has been happening for 3+ years now although it seems to be happening more frequently recently.

Edit: I wonder if I could build a jig to limit any back fed voltage.

Out of curiosity, do you have a power cable plugged into your Zune for charging?

I found with my zune that if I have a cable plugged into the headphone jack on the Zune going to a set of speakers, it will constantly reboot. Seems to be electro static related, as it will reboot if I touch something near it or get and move.

But if I plug in a charging cable to the bottom of the Zune, it will never reboot. Kind of acts like it's then grounded properly.
