Just got a Zune 8GB on sunday. Haven't had alot of time to really mess around with it but already have a few questions.

I was curious if I can just organize my music by artist only and not album? IOW I want to click on music and it show me the artist names. Then I click on one of the names and it just lists all the songs, not all the albums. Is that possible?
I tried to delete the Album titles in a tag editor thinking that would work but they still appear on the zune (some are even different then they were before??) even after I sync.

Videos - Is there a good tutorial on how to convert movies to work on the zune??? Hopefully something that will take any kind of video file (avi, mpeg, etc.) and convert/reduce thet size to make it playable but in decent quality.

I bought the skullcandy (smokebuds?) headphones just because I wanted to keep the total cost down. They sound good but I think my older sony earbuds that I used with my iaudo I5 sounded better. Either that or the iaudio sounded better than the zune????
Would better ear phones make alot of difference?

They didn't have the shure ec2 (which I've read that alot of people like) but they had the Shure Model SE110K . Are those a replacement of the ec2's?

Thanks for any info and if you know any other tips regarding the zune that you can share I would appreciate it.

The Zune apparently has fairly good DACs compared to iPods, so better headphones might help.

As for video conversion, I'd think your best bet would be MPEG-4 / H.264. There's a ton of software designed to hit that particular format.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll keep trying these headphones out and maybe plug them into my old iaudio to see if it's them or the player.

Thanks for th einfo on the video conversion. I'm hoping someone that has done it will chime in and at least recommned one or two good software packages that allow this. I just hate to google and download 10 bad ones to find a good one.'

Actually the Zunes use the same DACs that were in the 4th and 5th gen iPods. Its a good DAC, but the circuitry of the player impacts the sound (in the case of the iPod the headphone amp parts weren't that good). The iPod is ostracized more because of the Apple mystique, its not as bad as people try to make it out to be. The Zune is an especially good sounding player, though.

Hmm, actually, I don't know how much of that applies to the flash Zunes (and flash iPods, although the flash iPods seem to be well liked for their sound quality compared to the HDD ones), I'm only familiar with the HDD ones (since there's a bunch of players I'd take over the flash Zunes).

Skullcandy headphones are hated on Head-Fi, about as much as Bose, if that gives you an idea. You could probably get better headphones for the same money (if you don't need earbud/IEM type then the Koss KSC-75s should be at the top of your list).

thanks. I figured the skullcandy's weren't top of the line but I only wasted ~$30.

They'll do for now until I can get something else. And I do generally prefer in ear style.
