LOL you are the repost police 🙂 You even posted repost in the link you gave me linking to the same link you were claiming was a repost of 😛

OH well, so its been said before. I tried. Lock it up.

just found these myself. came here to see if there was a better deal. lost my old login info so had to re-register. got 3 for $110 each for xmas presents.

Can somebody clarify if Zune 30 is discontinued? I checked zune.net and there is no Zune 30 available in November. Regarding Zune 30, what's a way to obtain the latest firmware as Zune 80 has?

4, 8 and 80GB is all that I know of.

30GB Zune's will get new firmware updates with the new devices. New Zunes are due to release November 13th. Just go to Zune Marketplace (in Nov.) and update.

hope this helps.

Can you hook these up as USB drives? Do they play OGG?

There's a registry patch that allows access via explorer; the Zune software is still necessary to manage music on the device.

No, it doesn't play OGG. It does however play AAC, which most OGG-capable players don't support.

im beginning to think microsoft is releasing them new but overstocked zune1 30gb still in their warehouses in a special so-called refurbished package so people can't resell them for more money.

i disagree. not everyone got a perfect one. there were some posting on fw about getting one doa, scratched up screens etc. mine looks brand new, but i know that wasnt the case with everyone.

Both of mine (I ordered two) arrived from Woot without any cables or headphones (which I presume were supposed to go in the little storage areas to the left & right of the Zune in the box). It's kinda difficult to use the thing when you can't charge it to get it operational. As a result, I'm probably just going to return them & order from Buy.com instead - no rush on getting mine, my Ipod Nano will get me by until then.

Thanks for the info. Sprang for it anyway, the price is right. Anything but the zombiePod 😉

Regarding the explorer access - is that "read-only" access, or can you drop mp3 files into it and be done (with the registry patch)? If you do, do you have to still use the software?
I really don't get that anal need to write "software" for stuff like this, since everybody wants to use it as a drive - this is the best and most generic interface option IMHO.

Hard drive storage format
Integrated hard drive provides massive amounts of memory for the least amount of money

how much storage space does this thing have as a hardrive? Is it USB2.0?

Um, 30GB... It's not a replacement for a good external drive.

Yes, it's USB 2.0

As I know it can't be converted in USB drive. However you can use some cheating, as rename files you want to store adding wav/vmw/wma extention and manage them using explorer.

So no one thinks I am more off my rocker then usual, the mod merged my thread into this one, hence the weird replies above. Too lazy to edit 🙂

I haven't used the patch; from what I've read, videos can be transferred, and will show up on the Zune; audio files cannot.

If I had to guess why some players require 'manager' software: When you've got upwards of 5000 individual tracks, it probably makes more sense to keep all the metadata (path, filename, ID3 tags) in a static database (that gets updated by iTunes, Zune software, etc)...

It's a popular bitching point, but realistically, the software can be configured so as to just function as a target to drag-n-drop files on - it doesn't require significantly more effort than drag-n-drop via explorer.

Anyway, at this price point, I can live with a few compromises.

Where a bit past the 19th, anybody heard if this will ever ship? I ordered as a present hopeing that aroind the 19th would be correct (still have plenty of time) but its getting closer, anybody heard anything?
