Zune 30 or a 30 gig Ipod video?

I just bought a 30 gig Ipod Video off the fs/t board but on another board I had a response to a thread I made last week looking for a Zune/Ipod and the guy is wanting to swap his Zune 30 for my Ipod. Would you swap and why/why not? I really don't care about watching videos and it will be used for music, with an occasional video.

The zune software used to be utterly horrific. The new version is supposedly better but I haven't yet gotten a chance to try it (my zune is mostly for gym use and I am a lazy and fat bastard, I guess). You might want to try the zune software out before deciding.

The unit itself, I'd call it a wash.

When my friend got a Zune when they first came out, the software was absolutely miserable. I got a Zune 8GB for free and was dreading the software, but it actually works now.

What sets the Ipod apart from the Zune when it comes to music? How is it better?

If its only for music, keep the ipod. Video is where the zune gets better.

yup

I dunno. I even like my Zune for audio, as that's about all I use it for. Battery life is not so great, but I don't know what the iPod's is like. I came from, and still use, my Sandisk Sansa e260 for running/the gym, and that thing has excellent battery life.

But I like the Zune for my music, I like the UI, and it has great sound.

edit: and as Quintox said... I hate iTunes. Glad I never have to deal with it, although I hate it when dealing with friend's computers and trying to get music playing. POS software.

Well I already have a Zune I bought for my wife, and it's great. I have also owned Ipods and they were great, I have never compared them.

I've had a few different MP3 players (iPod, Gigabeat, Dell DJ, Zune) and I'd rank them as follows:

Zune>Gigabeat>DJ>>>>iPod

Granted I'm an Apple, well what's the oppposite of fanboy...hateboy? But I've never liked itunes and I do not like the lack of formats available for use on the ipod also how it can be somewhat difficult to remove things from it. I still have a shuffle that I received as a gift and I use it for running, so they are not the worst thing ever, but I'd still pick it last out of most everything else out there.

I love my 80GB Zune, and the software is actually quite good now. I also appreciate theMarketplace Zunepass subscription, something that iTunes does not offer.

I just got the 80GB Zune last month, it's been great. The software is pretty good; not perfect, but not the horror show that the first iteration of software apparently was. The screen is better/bigger than an iPod, so video is improved. The iPod has a billion gadgets that it connects to, whereas the Zune market penetration is nowhere near that level, so if you want to hook it up in your car, that's something to consider.

I'd go with the Zune personally.

I use my Zune in my car, no problem at all.

I have the Zune. I got it when it first came out and it was crappy. MS has since updated the firmware and zune software and it is actually quite good now. My only quip with it though is that it sometimes doesn't shut off like it should and it drains the battery. Plus I have the zune pass and can pretty much get any music I want for cheap.

Well that's a reason to find it adequate, not to love it. There are probably a tonne of applications that do what you need, I thought maybe there was something special about itunes to set it apart.

Was just a question. I was genuinely interested to know what sets it apart.
