Zune 30 Failures -- all to gether now!

Seems that anyone with a zune 30 with the latest firmware/software is locking up. And the fix is not for the squeemish - have to take the zune case apart to "hard reset" the thing.

Actually, the "fix" apparently doesn't work - it'll freeze again if you plug it in, or so I've heard. Best to wait for Microsoft...

And, yes, my Zune 30 is affected. Definitely an unwelcome surprise this morning driving to work.

thats crazy! I was just reading about this over at Engadget and Gizmodo.

I wonder what would cause something like that.... Sucks though, hope they can fix it soon

I remember when lots of people on this forum were proclaiming the Zune to be far superior to the iPod, months before it was even released.

Let me know when the iPod gets the Independance Day glitch.

Yeah, before i left for work my zune was docked and locked on the Zune loading screen which i thought was weird. When i got to work, my co-worker's locked, and now i just got a text from my friend with the same problem. Any s/w updates?

Status:

Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We?re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!

Yep, just saw that zune.net site message just now, wonder what happened... I've heard that it may have something to do with the clock/calendar.

My 1G Touch has firmware from the 2G Touch. You might be right though that an old school iPod can't run the 2.2 firmware. It might have something to do with the thing not being powerful enough though 🙂

Zune firmware sucks, the interface sucks. The heart/broken heart is easily the most retarded song rating system I've ever seen. For an MP3 player one of the most important thing is a good rating system, so I can make playlists based off what I love, and others for stuff I don't love but like once in awhile.

My GF is at work pissed off because her Zune won't start. She's hoping MS will fix it, If they do I imagine it'll require her to send it in and wait a long time. If this is effecting everyone, there will be a million people sending them in to get it fixed.

A million is just a number I made up, I know MS has only sold like 18,000 Zunes or something 😀

No Independence Day glitch but it did blow up in the middle of a charge.
Well it didn't really blow up, but it did release the magic smoke.

I'm glad I did a search on the issue before I went ahead and ordered a 120 GB zune. I may order one anyways since I need more than 30 GB.

From MS:

Follow these steps:

1) Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
2) Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain?this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
3) Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
4) Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
5) Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required?you can go back to using your Zune!

120GB zune shouldn't be affected.
