I noticed that Family Dollar had their Net 10 ZTE Whirl 2 Android Smartphone on sale today for $9, which is normally priced for $49.

Sure, you can get it online for about $19, but then you have to pay shipping.

For that price, it's worth it just to buy it for the extra Micro USB sync cable and charger! I'll bet that the Android hackers around here could find a another use for it as well, like converting it into a webcam.

Picked one up today for my 10 year old. So far it's fine for games and music. The camera is pretty bad by today's standards. He has a tablet, but for some reason prefers to game on a phone.

I haven't figured out how to install a web server running PHP, Mysql, and Wordpress on a Android phone yet. I'm sure it could be done, but I doubt that you'll find a simple to follow tutorial for it.

Still had plenty left at store - sign said $49 but it rang up as $9 at checkout.

It comes with Android 4.3
Tried rooting with towelroot - device not supported :(

It's been a while - noticed towelroot dev now works for google - guess he's not supporting it anymore - lol

Dropped $9 for one at the local Family Dollar. They had them in a cage with the rest of the phones. No indication it was actually $9 the price came up at the register to the surprise of the clerk.

I have installed Kodi.tv (XBMC) on it and am going to pair it with my Chromecast as a media player for the films and tv on my network.

Set it up and it runs like a champ through my chromecast:

Loaded Kodi.tv, localcast, along with ES file explorer. Plays everything perfect. Great value for $10 if you don't count the cost of a chromecast. Even without it, it plays all the kodi.tv content as well as network or local files no problem.
