Zonealarm woes

I made a mistake today and decided to update my version of zone alarm.
Now I have some flashy zone alarm suite which seems to be blocking all programs by default. When I goto the programs tab, it has ? marks for all of them which should make zone alarm prompt me but it doesn't prompt me anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this or what I'm doing wrong? If theres a better firewall software out there than zonealarm, please suggest it to me. And my router is locked down tight but I still like to have some software firewall proggy whenever I don't want programs accessing anything outside my network.

TIA :)

all you have to do is click on all program names and right click to remove then re-boot your pc it will ask for permission for each programs.

kerio hasn't had a new release for over 2 years. Are they still supporting the program.?

Well I went through and removed all the programs listed in zone alarm and rebooted. When it came back up, it had a bunch of programs in there again. There has to be a way to have zone alarm prompt you whether to allow access or not. What a crappy update.

there's a setting to choose if you want to be asked, set it to manually instead of auto.

Wow, Kerio2 catches a lot more than zone alarm. All kinds of stuff trying to connect.
What did they do in later versions that makes ver 2 better than ver 4?

Thanks again, shadenfroh

Don't waste your time with software firewalls like those. The SP2 firewall is fine and just as secure.

What anti virus program are you using? I had the same issue yesterday, and it turned out to be my anti virus program, Kaspersky. I was shocked to say the least.

Yeah I did. It told me I would have to before installing the new one.

I uninstalled the old one
rebooted
installed the new one
rebooted
and it never prompted me on whether to allow connections or not

I'd give their technical support a try. Sounds like you've done all the right things.

Would you recommend zonealarm over kerio? I'll try to give them a call tonight. Thanks for the help! :)

You upgraded to pro, so yeah I would. The version of kerio you see recommended here is just a basic firewall. Other than saving on resources I don't get the allure of it. If I didn't have a router, I'd probably have zonealarm pro myself.
