When I startup I get an alert that says a program is asking for server rights, but there is no program name or date. Anyone else experience this with Windows XP Pro + ZoneAlarm?

thanks

I had that happen to me when I was using win XP home...I coulden't find any reason for it, and have since moved back to win2k.

I don't think its the firewall...I always had the piece of junk turned off. For me, it decided that it wanted to block all network access to my computer, so I coulden't access any network shares I had set up. I dumped that thing very quickly.

Just use Windows 2000. Windows XP is too new and has too many problems with various pieces of hardware and software.

Well, I'm happy with XP, everything works, but I can't figure out what this server program is for. I do have a home network setup and did turn on firewall, but I don't know if that's it. I just deleted ZoneAlarm, too many problems.

There's no need for name calling. Give the guy a break. No one reads those other forums. ;)

if its in the wrong forum...ignore it and it will sink << Well, I'm happy with XP, everything works, but I can't figure out what this server program is for. When using Winxp and Zonealarm my internet connection would always timeout or not connect. I think I'll stay with Win2K for now.

That dialog goes away if you add the ip range for your dns servers in the advanced security options.

WinXP isn't too secure. It could be a number of this, from the massive internet bug, to winXP phoning home, which it likes to do. Microsoft wants windows to now download whatever they want you to download, I'd stick with 2k.
