i'm a huge fan of zone alarm's products. i think they're simple and effective, and i already purchased their antivirus/firwall suite. i like having as many apps consolidated as possible.

eh? the program exists, i'm just asking if it's worthwhile from a security perspective. i'll be using it at home, where i do occasionally do online shopping as well as sensitive financial activities. i'm usually very careful with browsing and cleaning my computer, so for the most part i should be safe, but a while back i had some fraudulent activity that caused me to cancel all my cards and have new ones issued. if just to save me from that headache again, i would gladly pay $20 as a preventative measure.

i'm asking if the program is sufficiently capable and if it delivers as promised.

I never heard of this... but it's probably just using a proxy. They tend to cause a bit of latency, and if you're using it to go to anandtech, and some jackass got ip banned and was also using the service, then you'll be screwed too.

you are correct, it does use a proxy. here's more information that i received in an email that i couldn't find on zone lab's website:

Anonymizer® Anonymous SurfingTM Protect Yourself from Identity Theft! Anonymous Surfing protects you and your family from online identity theft by keeping your IP address (and your identity) private. It also protects you from visiting phishing, pharming, or spyware sites by displaying a warning notification of the hidden dangers ahead. Anonymous Surfing offers peace of mind and is an excellent companion to antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall protection.

Anonymous SurfingTM
Anonymous Surfing hides your IP address so online snoops are unable to track the sites you visit and build profiles on your Internet activities. By redirecting your Web traffic through our secure servers, your online identity is protected whether you are at home, on the road or on a wireless network. These servers are armed with 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, similar to your bank - so you can rest easy knowing that you and your family are covered.

Key Features

* Safe online shopping, banking and tax filing
* Automatic alert of fraudulent sites
* Starts automatically when you turn on your PC
* Easy to use with the click of a button
* Secures the data you send over a wireless network

LOL they're slightly exaggerating the dangers of having people know your IP address. As for phishing and spyware, well, it's possible that it helps... but a good host file would do the same thing. And IE7 will have built in phishing protecdtion as well.
