ZOMG, gaming on NEW 2405FPW

Got home for the semester. I bought my parents a 2405FPW last time they were on sale, and I only got a day or two to see it during Thanksgiving break...

Anyways, my parents don't like it apparently. It's not clear enough? Dunno. So I traded panels for this break. I have a Viewsonic VP191b (19") and I'm now using the Dell 2405FPW. Colors suck definitely. After calibration, still not that great. Contrast on the VP191b just KICKS ASS.

Gaming? WHOAHZ. 1920x1200 is crazy for my 7800GT and so I settle with CS:S. Have to drop down to 2xAA otherwise I dont like too many moments of 40fps on 4xAA. I suppose COD2 and Quake 4 are out of the question considering I can already see chopiness at 1280x1024...

In the end, I'll switch back to my VP191b. Still better. This 2405 is just too bright and its hurting my eyes already after a few hours....

Edit: Wow wtf, I typed "1 line" per paragraph when I view this on the 2405... I have to say the gaming experience is AWESOME. CS looks brillaint (minus the chopinesss). Colors could be better and so could contrast, but gaming ona 24" screen still kicks @$$. Combined with my Logitech Z-2300s.. this is an awesome experience I don't get back at school

It's probably not sucky if you have it as a first panel, but I've tried TN panels and then switched to my Viewsonic VP191b, and once I got there, I could NEVER go back....

BTW, anyone got some nice 1920x1200 wallpapers for me? =P

Hopefully that will reduce that price of the 2005.

I'm still pissed about that I paid $480 for mine and it was $334 on 11/29, super fscking hot!

which happened to be the deal I picked my 2005 up for :)

Yeah the 2405 is really bright - I have it on the lowest brightness and white pages still burn the eyes. It's a sexy burn though.... Mmm....

the 2405 is an MVA panel and the 2005fpw is a S-IPS IIRC

what is the VP191b?

me agrees.

I hope Dell's new 3007WFP is comparable to the 2005FPW.

There's no official announcement yet, but apparently Dell is going to roll out a massive 30-inch LCD monitor to compete with Apple's lust-inducing 30-inch Cinema Display. The 3007WFP is said to have a a resolution of 2560 x 1600 (that's WQXGA, baby!), a 14ms response time, 400cd/m2 brightness, 700:1 contrast ratio, support for HDCP, and a built-in 4-port USB hub and 9-in-1 multimedia card reader. No price, but it should hit North America on December 21st, which means you'll have to choose between buying Christmas presents for your loved ones or buying yourself one sweet LCD panel.

you see choppiness on COD2 at 1280x1024? i hope you have FSAA and ASF on, because i have an x800 pro and run 1280x1024 (no FSAA or ASF), everything else up, and hardly ever have slowdowns

I love my 2405FPW. I don't know why people complain about the brightness. I have all settings (Brightness, Contrast, Gamma) set to 100% and have no problem looking at the screen.

The colors on mine look outstanding.

Ive owned a 2001 2005 and 2405. in terms of brightness its 2405 > 2005 >> 2001.

i got use to the brightness within a few days. Im still not used to the immensity of the screen.

I cant wait till the 30incher goes to the <$1000 price point.

How do you like the 2005 vs 2405? Not counting size, which is better and why?

I hope the local Dell kiosk has the new 3007WFP so we can test drive it before buying.

Under $1,000 will take a while considering it should retail around $1799 and maybe $1499 after a Hot Deal.
