Yes, but in real life we are smarter. As zombies only act/react on sounds and vision. No logic involved.

But yes, TV logic in which if humans werent stupid, would be lousy TV.

Yes there are many story mechanisms used to exacerbate the plot.
1. Where did all the food go. It is unlikely that people would have exhausted the food stores. He was in a coma, still with bandages on his chest, no feeding tube, with no one to care for him. Couldnt have been more than 3 weeks since the shooting.
2. Or the fuel stores.
3. a standard deisel will run on cooking oil.
4. these zombies cant catch wildlife or most domestic animals
5. the zombies skulls seem to be way too easy to puncture.z

Dont get me wrong I enjoy the genre and this series but it just seems way to hard for this groop.

No, we're only theoretically smarter. A truly smart human would not get caught. But that makes lousy television, so the humans in zombie shows are dumb. They have to be stupid enough to get themselves into situations where a slow moving shambling mound of meat with no weapon other than teeth and no ability to plan or ambush could be a threat to them. Otherwise there's no show.

So instead of smart humans opening a door to the prison and making noise to draw the zombies out where they can safely be handled one by one the dumb humans go stumbling around in the dark making no attempt to protect themselves from attacks from the rear or either flank.

Yeah, no kidding. Dark hallways... corpses laying around. Double tap them just to be sure? Naw...
better to chop a leg off instead!

White walkers are magical creatures, and they control wights who are like zombies. It's fantasy so it can all be explained by magic.

What about Draugr I wonder. They're like zombies but have magical powers, such as the ability to grow to any size at will. Now that would be damn scary. Plus Skyrim tells us Draugr have an inherent resistance to cold.

What about games of thrones, the whitewalkers? They are freezing, but I guess they aren't "zombies"?

There's no indication that Mr. Martin is following traditional zombie lore as there is strong evidence that the white walkers are as intelligent as humans (or at the very least capable of cunning far greater than the zombies we think of)

As indicated in the prologue of the first book where the white walkers stalk a member of the night's watch and one kills him while others observe.

Then they all hack his body apart iirc.

Additionally a witness to the killing escapes (and is later executed by Ned Stark for abandoning his Night's Watch oath)

To me it's very likely they were aware of his presence and allowed him to leave for whatever reason.
