As you've probably already guessed, I have an A8N-SLI deluxe. The chipset fan has been making alot of noise recently, so i bought a zalman NB47J. I hadn't got around to installing it, until asus pc probe started flashing when the fan stopped spinning this morning. So i finally decided to replace it today.
Firstly, I took my MoBo out of the case, and removed the old chipset fan.
Then i cleaned the chipset with surgical spirits (alcohol) and cotton wool.
Once all the old thermal paste was off, I put on a little of the thermal paste included with the heatsink on the chipset, and spread it around.
I then assembled the heatsink and popped it in my motherboard.
After re assembling my PC, i turned it on and went into bios. According to the bios, my mobo temp is 26C. But i have a temp monitor which mounts in bay on the front of my case. I wedged one of it's temp probes into my heatsink. The temp kept increasing, until it hit 50C and the alarm sounded, so i shut down the pc.
I have two 80mm fans (~15-20 cfm), one at the front of the case, and one at the back. I also have a 35cfm fan in my side window.
Would i be right if i thought the problem was not enough airflow? I think i must have installed it right, because the heat is getting into the heatsink. Would adding another 80mm fan, or replacing the current one with a 120mm fan, help?
Thanks all
