That might be why the price on GTX's has jumped a whole $100+ dollars since i started this thread, Check out the prices on froogle.

I figured the GTO's dissappearing meant the GTX's were finished as well. Though i was wrong about the actual reason, whatever leftover GTX parts they were using are finished, the only logical conclusion is that the GTX's aren't being manufactured anymore either.

I was gonna wait for a better deal to run SLi, but now I'm definetly in for a 2nd before the GTX's ride off into the sunset.

Thanks Takemaru for the link. I'm totally on the fence on this. I have two problems I have to debate in my head. 1) Will an eVGA and MSI 7900GTX SLI correctly and 2) will ZipZoomFly completely screw me over if I have to RMA it. Let's face it, it is ZipZoomFly, the place whose customer support immediately goes to an answering machine. Ever try to RMA to ZZF. Yeah, its great when and if they try call you 5 days later... while you're at work. :p

nVidia article here
Here's a link to nVidia's own page.

Starting with the ForceWare 80 series of drivers, you can mix and match SLI cards, as long as they have the same GPU.

possible pairings:
7900 GT/7900 GTX
MSI 7900 GTX/eVGA 7900 GTX.
MSI 7900 512 GTX/eVGA 7900 GT 256

Basically, as long as the GPU is the same, then it will work, but effective speed is that of the slowest card.

if you want to buy a card, I'm selling my MSI card.
no rebate hassles and I know it's working.

heck, just picked up a 7900 GS from the other thread for <$150, and the 8800's are selling for as little as $448. I'm sure the 8800s will come down in price soon enough, if you're in that ballpark. The performance gains are huge over the 7x or the ATI 1X series of cards. Worst improvement was 50% better performance. I took the 7900 GS because it got down into the price range I wanted. I may try the CompUSA price match, and drop it another $30 after rebate, making it around $115.

You can SLI a 7900GT and a GTX? I'm suddenly tempted to hold on to my GB 7900Gt rather than RMA'ing to newegg and taking the 20% loss but i'd rather not choke the GTX with a weaker card.

I would buy one of em off of you fool since i haven't pulled the trigger on my 2nd card yet. But I'm waiting on the PS3 (been switching shifts with my friends waiting on line since monday) and a DB or 2. Hopefully you still have em after BF....
