So did the ZZF Customer Service Rep. actually say that they never had the cards in the first place? because i have spoken to people there who said that they did, but that they sold them out very quickly and will be getting another shipment of them on tuesday per the manufacturer.

Good question. I saw this card and it looks prefect! It's got a better-than-stock cooler, 256MB of GDDR3, just like the GT, and a reasonable bundle...but only 12 pipes? And for the same price as a real GT? Give me a break.

I got the dreaded email from ZZF about the Gainward 6800GT. Read on

"Please note that the manufacturer was supposed to delivery a shipment to
our company by now. That is why we listed the item as "In Stock" at the
time you had placed your order. However, it now appears that they have
once again pushed back the ETA date until tomorrow 8/6/04. Unfortunately,
we will not be able to confirm this ETA until the actual shipment
arrives. Our guess is that this is a tentative date and is subject to
change. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
ZipZoomFly"

They better get it tomorrow.....My AMD 64 pc is ready to go except the damn video card!

I was looking today for seagate hard drive at Dell (price was good) so I called them to see if it was oem or retail, and I asked them if they had any 6800 GT in stock, and to my surprise they did. ALthough is the gigabyte for 402$ on sale. They also have ultra in stock also. Anybody hear anything about this card. Anyway, the website does not show that they have any new 6800 in stock.....???

I haven't gotten an email like that yet, but sounds to me like I will get it sooner or later. I have an Abit AV8 socket 939 Mobo and FX-53 939 CPU coming this weekend, should be a damn sweet rig to play Doom3 on if I get the Gainward 6800 Ultra Golden Sample card that i ordered from ZZF.

I just called Dell and the sales rep told me the Gigabyte Ultra $579, and the Asus Ultra $629, are not actually in stock and have an estimated arrival date of the 17th.

I called to confirm this afternoon and was told it would ship today (free 2 day UPS). I get home, check my email and low and behold the item that I was told would ship today was on backorder :( . Kinda reminds me of Gateway....

I also experienced the same treatment from ZZF.

I got the notification as well.... and I see that it already says out of stock.

ZZF still has a hold on my credit card. I greatly regret trying them.

Hi all,

I've been trying to get my hands on the Gainward 6800 GT Golden Sample as well, mostly because of the 1.6ns memory. However, I stumbled on this thread: Gainward Thread

That says that the Gainwards that were supposed to be shipping as Golden Samples, have been arriving as reference cards. No red heatsink, and possibly 2ns memory. ?? If anyone HAS a GT/Golden Sample, can you verify what it looks like and what model the RAM is? Also, where you got it from? I'd like to be sure that if I spend the extra $$$ on the Golden Sample, it's a legit GS and not some crappy reference card with stock cooling & RAM. Then you might as well save your $$ and get a PNY.

Thanks all for the input.

tattooedbones, I bought the GT Golden Sample and mine came with the red heatsink and dual DVI, so I definitely did not get a reference design (I bought mine from eXcaliberpc.com). I don't know about the memory.

I have a couple of threads in Video, and in one I have some pics of it.

Oh, and as for price gouging, I really don't think it is for a Golden Sample Ultra for $530. Gainward probably warrants the card for 450/1200 speeds (Ultra Extreme speeds), so I don't see how getting an UE for $530 is a bad deal.

Great! Good to know that there are some legit GS cards out there. I was getting worried. Hopefully then, Gainward has corrected the issue. Now if I could only get my hands on a GT card ! I can't find any in stock for a reasonable price! BTW, what is the warranty on your card? BFG has a slightly overclocked card with a lifetime warranty. (370MHz) Thanks again.

Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample arrived today. Looks awesome just like the photo on the web.

You only see it preclocked at 400x1100 with thier ExpertTool. I prefer coolbits though.

Going to do some OC'ing to see how it goes.:D

Yep the Gainward showed up today. What a nice looking card. red pcb, copper heatsink, dual fan with the reddish cover. It has dual DVI and includes two adaptors if you do not use DVI (which I don't).

If you check the default clock speeds in coolbits it shows up as 350x1000. If you install the ExperTool they provide the default 3D performance setting is 400x1100. I prefer coolbits so I uninstalled XperTool and OC with coolbits.

Here are some doom 3 benches with timedemo demo1 (No AA).

The GPU Temps rose from about 55 no load to 68 after demo:

I started out at 400x1000 OC for Coolbits 3D Performance settings:
1024x768 83.6 fps
1600x1200 64.4 fps

400x1100 OC (not much of a change):
1024x768 83.8 fps
1600x1200 65.4 fps

425x1100 OC:
1024x768 84.1 fps
1600x1200 67.7 fps

425x1150 OC:
1024x768 84 fps
1600x1200 68.1 fps

435x1150 OC:
1024x768 84.2 fps
1600x1200 68.7 fps

435x1200 OC:
1024x768 84.2 fps
1600x1200 69.1 fps

440x1200 OC:
Failed

440x1150 OC:
1024x768 84.3 fps
1600x1200 69.2 fps

Here are a couple of benches with 4x AA etc for both:

400x1000 OC:
1024x768 67.8 fps
1600x1200 38.2 fps

440x1150 OC:
1024x768 72.7 fps
1600x1200 43.0 fps

I was able to play Doom 3 without any problems at 440x1150 with no AA on.

This is a pretty solid preformer and it looks great to.

I frequent these forums but have never posted. I just joined so that I could let people know that ZipZoomFly just screwed me with the Gainward Card too. What a scam, I'll stick to NewEgg. A-holes.

newegg, zzf, whatever the case...

everybody is price gouging on the latest generation x800/6800 series cards. no matter what flavoar you get your bound to get screwed. got in on a deal? think again they gonna cancel it.

your better off play doom3 and half life now on 9800pro/xt or 5900. then when price drops to a reasonable range (300-400), get the new card. by then you probably have an awesome pci-express supported board to go with it

that is unless of course you're rich and are willing to blow away that money for extra perfomance. if that's the case, my hats off to you.
