zipdrive problem

I got an Iomega Zipdrive 100, its really slow when transfering files. It starts to copy but stalls for a few minutes then starts again and stops. It usually makes the system hang and I have to end task the session. Im running it on a ASUS CUV4x-E motherboard using the 686B chipset. Ive read that installing the IDE Busmaster drivers will solve the problem however ive run into a problem. The busmaster fixes the problem but when I put in a Zip disk that has info from another computer in then the system thinks its empty and asks you if you want to format. I try formatting it and copy a few files onto it but when I put it in another system it doesnt read it. If anyone can help me out I appreciate it, thanks.
