Not a bad deal considering this includes three blank Zip disks. The lowest price on the drive only is $58.99 so paying another $10 for 3 Zip disks ain't to shabby.

Of course if I were to buy a Zip drive I'd get the 250MB version but I already own one and guess what? I never use it, ha!

I have a Plextor CD-RW and use that more often since CD's hold up to 700MB, burn at 12x and are reasonably universal in their format.

In addition to RoosMAN's comments, CD's are MUCH LESS expensive and MUCH MORE reliable than ZIP discs.

Good deal.

I agree with RossMan though. I held off buying a ZIP drive and when CDRWs came down in price, I jumped all over it. Now I really have no need for a ZIP drive.

I have two Iomega drives, an internal 250 and the USB CD-RW. Both work well, and I use them equally. The 100 would be a good (Cheap) backup source for some, or a good secondary drive for someone with limited computer experience. My Sister comes to mind. This is a good deal if you are looking to help someone with an older computer/laptop with limited HD space.

I remember about two years ago when I waited every week with anticipation for Iomega to release a 250MB USB Zip drive. They did and I purchased it from va.com for $79 (back in the day of super flaming hot bargains). Fortunately I didn't pay full retail for it because I have only used it like once.

I agree with Maverick though if you have someone with limited experience it isn't that hard to insert the zip disk, assuming it loads to your desktop just click and drag and you're done.

and yes 858diver CD-Rs are super cheap and a lot more reliable than mechanical-moving-parts zip disks will ever be.

But if I ever need to put something onto a zip disk it's nice knowing that my $79 paper weight will come to my rescue!

If you don't mind internal, Access Micro has them for $39.00 + S/H (which I thought was a bit steap when I purchased from them this month)

I personally don't know anyone with a USB Zip, they are probably more handy to switch between machines, but the performance of an internal is probably slightly better.

I value the disks at about $8 so... 79.99 - 24 = $55

I guess I'm just a rebel. Never had a ZIP drive, just a burner and a SuperDisk drive. I find the functionality for 120 MB disks and the ability to handle the ancient regular floppies quite useful. Sure, it isn't nearly the standard ZIP is, but since most people in my family have a SuperDisk drive, it works out alright.

However, I think Maverick's right on, it would be good for an older system, and prime for moving files to/from a laptop that doesn't already have a high-capacity drive installed.

it's good for moving mp3s too. i have a burner at home(not connected to net), but i can't store mp3s on a floppy and the one comp that i have access [OCCASIONALLY] to that has a burner and net access is always commandered by some visiting pirate. i got mine last night at od for $34.88 + tax using $15 off $50. and i'm well pleased if i can get the cable to unstick from the back of the unit when i'm finished

edit: searched google instead of iomega's site and it took me to a page on iomega's site that explained it perfectly.
