My friend just finished building his computer, and is having a hard time with his internal zip drive. His wifes computer also has an internal zip drive, and when he tries to transfer files from her computer using a zip disk, his computer tells him his disk is not formatted, and that he needs to format it.

Anybody had similar problems? Know any cures?

I've never run into that with a zip disk. Are both zip drives the same size? Are the disks 100MB or 250MB? If he formats them can she read them?

They are Zip100's
It's really weird.
He put the disk in his computer and put a couple of files on it, then carried it to her computer couldn't see them. But he found some files on the zip disk that he didn't know were there because his computer didn't see them.

The only time I have run into anything similar is when I was passing zip disks from an external zip hooked to my laptop to the internal drive in my desktop.

You have a faulty Zip drive, this is very common and will soon result in the loss of all of your data on the Zip disks, along with damaging the disk. Expect to hear the click-o-death very soon from your Zip drive.

Check out www.grc.com there are some very good and technical explanations on why the Zip drives fail and how to find out which ones are on the way out.
