Well if nothing else I agree that Duke Nukem was truely awful. Glad I waited till amazon's 99ct sale.

If you watch the video he says he only is ranking games that he actually played for a considerable amount of time this year, not just every one he played a tiny bit of. You would also know that he hates what "modern" shooters have become, hence MW3/BF3 being on the worst games list.

And he is judging based on what he likes, so it's the same as anyone else's personal list. I'm sure there are games on everyone's top 10 that aren't all critically acclaimed. It's one man's opinion, I'm sure there are objections.

Never understand why people like Portal games. I admit I haven't played any

Sigh

I'm open to answers here if you think I am wrong.

Let me post the lengthy explanation this post deserves: you're wrong.

There are games it's reasonable to say you don't like without playing, pretty much.

I don't need to play hunting games or "Barbie's new wardrobe" to know "not for me."

Portal isn't one. It came up with a remarkable new design element and did great with it.

Nah, this guy has no credibility in my book.

I suspect he meant, 'watch the video to understand the limits of what games he included'.

If someone posted a youtube of 'my favorite rap songs' and you posts 'where the hell is stairway to heaven', someonone might say 'watch the youtube' to understand the error.

It doesn't have to do with you agreeing with his taste.

And then portal 2 came along and gave you $15 worth of gameplay for $60. Yay.

Not if you waited for the end of year sale and got it for 7.50 like I did. 😀

I guess I got twice the amount of gameplay then since I payed half as much. Sweet.

Lulz, I love that Escapist uses a pop out window sucking MW3 dick to show the video that calls it shit.

"As funny as this might sound, these rankings are based on the subjective amount of fun I had with each title, not by how many five star ratings were showered on it by publisher approved journalists who all secretly wish they were dead."

Sigh

I know right?

Shooter quality continues to degrade while the costs increase...

I was a HUGE BF2/2124 fan and I despise BF3 at several levels. They took away a LOT of content that made the franchise great, all in the name of money.

I agree, the CoD series went from bad to worse to terrible over the years and it's just disgusting the state it's in now. BF3 I expected a lot more and they didn't really deliver on a lot of fronts.

I wouldn't say that BF3 is really the worst game of 2011 but it's definitely one of the most disappointing games out there in respect to what people expected from it at launch, and that's partly due to very high expectations. We were sold a true BF2 sequel which would be tailored for the PC and what we got was pretty much a consolized BF2 which was way too close to MW3 for my liking.

Plus I think modern warfare style games are done for now, it's like WW2, it's just been overdone and there's nothing we can eek out to make these games better right now, especially with consolization holding us back in so many departments.

And then portal 2 came along and gave you $15 worth of gameplay for $60. Yay.

I agree, Portal 2 was the biggest pricing mistake I think I've ever seen, with a little over 4 hours to completely the main story and no real interest in coop it should have been down in the £10 range, I picked it up for sale once it reached £5.

Their direction of simple puzzles, consolized controls, and forced comedy didn't really do the game any favours either.

Buy Portal 1 (it's really cheap) and give it a try. Then you'll understand.

Nah, this guy has no credibility in my book.

Every critic represents a legitimate point of view, and the only way a critic loses credibility is for selling their opinion or contradicting themselves unknowingly...

I am not sure he does either. Not everyone is supposed to agree with his opinions, he is popular because he is funny, sincere, and people can understand his perspective, like Ebert for example. That doesn't mean you should follow his recommendations if you play things different or like different games...

You know what, I'm going to 100% agree with him on MW3/BF3. The "gritty modern war shooter" genre is more overplayed now than WWII shooters were a decade ago. Not to mention they've made multiplayer such a strong focus that the single player suffers greatly.

Why buy it at all if it's awful?

You can't know for sure until you play it yourself... how do you know it's awful until you buy it? Reviews are just other people's opinions, and can be jaded by what happened with that particular game.
