from what ive seen of this guys reviews he is cynical but backs up what he says

Exactly.

Also, he only said good things about Psyconaughts and Portal, and those are two awesome games compared to all the uninspired crap we've seen over the past few years.

Clear Sky was incredibly enjoyable, but deserved getting slammed in any review because of the sorry state the faction wars released in. No real excuse for that.

I agree. I think he's pretty fair. He just doesn't hand out 90+'s like most review sites. And to be honest, I don't think he's always completely thrashing a game when he says something negative, it's just his style of humor. For an example from Stalker CS he had his mini-rant about the STALKER Chernobyl spewing out magical fairy radiation (or something like that) and turning people/animals into mutants and creating anomalies instead of just.. spewing out poisonous radiation. I don't think he says things like this to take a shot at the game's realism, he's just joking about how absurd some concepts are in games .. for better or worse.

Yahtzee isn't a serious critic - he's a comedic commentator. People who get torqued out of shape over his remarks are missing the point. It's entertainment. He can find the naff elements of solid games like Bioshock and mock them, but he doesn't just trash stuff out of blind malice. He's usually hilarious, but this one was a little lackluster because he spent too much time discussing the game instead of mocking it.

Some people seem to read WAY too much into these. Yes it's entertainment, but I've found almost all of his points to be true in many of his reviews. Sure he exaggerates for the sake of entertainment, but I bought painkiller based on his review and enjoyed it for (more or less) the precise reasons he mentioned.

He was very right about the immersion of the game, even though the graphics are not quite Crysis level it was definitely more atmospheric and I really found it alot of fun to just wander around. Sure the 20+ BSOD's I have experienced are annoying but hey, nothings perfect

Yahtzee always blows things out of proportion, but I don't think he even went that out of line here. It's such a buggy mess I couldn't even get it to run for a solid 45 mins and when I did it was so frustrating that I wasn't even having fun.

Despite his bashing of all things buggy in games or just plain crap games, I feel that he held back in his Age of Conan review so much, I am less inclined to trust him. In my opinion, he didnt bash it enough
