It was definitely a surprise... I figured he'd be complaining about all the game problems I have heard of.

The forums exaggerate issues WAYY out of context. Its like the Boston Massacre on the official forums.

Thats because the issues are bad, game breaking and fully justified.

My AMD X2 6000+, 4 Gb RAM and HD4870 struggles with it at basic settings. I have attempted to resolve my issues both on the AoC forums and on Anandtech to no avail.

The EU Technical Support forums for AoC are filled with people with Out of Memory errors and performance issues with a wide range of hardware going from the Minimum Spec to the Quad Core + GTX280 range.

It is the sole reason why I cancelled my Subscription. The framerates are unplayable and not much fun when you regularly dip into the low teens. I do enjoy the back game though.

The AoC forums are a cesspool. So is my server (Deathwhisper). The worst day in the WoW Rogue forums doesn't hold a candle to the fog of shit known as the AoC community that hangs over this game, slowly choking the life out of it. Leveling up on Deathwhisper is like taking a guided tour of the museum of defective personalities and stunted emotional growth.

As bad as some of the technical issues are and as ill-conceived as some of the gameplay mechanics are, the worst part of this game, by far, are the people playing it.

So is it the kiddies? Or really guy's in their 20's with a dick complex?

I'm still somewhat tempted to try this.

The video was great but what's up with the wall to wall AoC ads all over the place while he basically trashes the game.

Yeah there are kiddies, but a lot of the "hardcore" PvPers are in their late 20s and early 30s.

The AoC forums are horrible. Its pretty easy to get AoC working really well. Go into the video options and hit defaults, restart. Go into the video options, hit High Quality. Apply. Adjust sliders and options until you get what you are looking for. You might have to delete a shader cache file but I haven't yet on my AMD or Nvidia system. I would bet there are a lot of people who just don't know their computers or are impatient twats crying to Funcom to fix their problems for them instead of spending 15 minutes adjusting things.

My HD3850 can get 40 fps in 1680x1050 there is no excuse for anyone else not to get it on their C2Ds. Another thing to do is make sure Windows Search Indexer is turned off!!!!! Your hard drive will constantly chomp away which will decrease FPS. Games aren't getting any smaller people.

The above do NOT work for me as I have attempted to do them several times both on my 8800GT and on my HD4870.

I have tried these and many more suggestions but AoC still runs like a snail in a hurry.

The ones who say they can get it working totally fine are a lucky few.

Uh, the minority of people have problems. Honestly, its your system, probably software related. The best video card for AoC right now is the 4870(as demonstrated by HardOcp).

My dual GTs, and 3Ghz Core2, get in the 50s and 60s with high quality + bloom + 8XAA + max draw distance + slight bumps to grass draw distance @ 1620x1080 or whatever.

Everytime I am on AoC chat, I hear a multitude of people having problems with AoC bugs. It is Age of Conan.

I have even had a clean install of Vista64, installed my drivers and installed Age of Conan.... it still didnt run well then even on a squeaky clean install.

Find me a solution besides a Funcom fix and I'll be over the moon but after everything Ive tried, I hold little hope.

I always enjoy zpg reviews. On the subject of game performance, My wife plays with a E6320 based system with an 8600gt and the settings we finally settled on give her 30+ fps with graphics that blow wow to the weeds. I use a 6000+ based system with a HD3870 and I consistently get 50+ fps with great looking graphics. Not all on high and it took a few hours to get it just right but that was weeks ago and I have not had to touch them since.

Been playing since release on 2 separate systems, one with a 8800gts (Vista32 2gb ram) and another on a 9800gx2 with vista 64 and 8gb ram, never had it crash, fps almost always above 40fps, tweaked video a bit but runs fine...

Still sounds like user error to me. I had a friend that was crying about his good computer not being able to run the game. After I was done messing around with the settings for about 30 minutes, the game became smooth as silk.

Here is a list of things to try:

1. Click the High settings option, don't use Medium or Low.
2. Put shadows down to Low or Disable them completely.
3. Turn the particle effects slider down to about 25%
4. Keep High Quality view and Grass Distance view to 130-145m

Just a few things to try out....

Having decided that I would try these options again, I found that your solution did not improve my situation.

What I did decide to do is that as I only have maybe 2 weeks before my subscription runs out, I thought I may as well see how it looks with High settings and force some nice features through CCC.

Running at 1280x720 with Medium shadows the only change to default High settings, x8 Edge Detect AA (x24 samples), x16 AF and Max Smooth MSAA, I am getting rather smooth FPS. Down to about 15 mins in OT but generally 25+ and in dungeons I have seen triple figures. In all my AoC playing time I have never seen anywhere near the stability in framerates that I am experiencing now. It's astounding.

And the best thing is.... I dont understand why!

Wow, it runs better on max settings then when you tweak the video settings? damn they need to fix that shit.

As always, ZP is awesome.

Does anybody recognize the model in the really tight jeans wearing the "Stonking Great" shirt?

His stuff is funny, but yeah most of the review are just ridiculing the games, even though some very much deserve it. It's just had to hear a positive comment, if any.

Much of what he says is true but I feel like he didn't get much into the game. I wish he tried playing a melee class instead of a caster class.

AoC ran like crap for me until I defragmented my computer and compressed my game files.

He gives the pluses on most games he reviews. Even the games he bashes the hardest hell put in a point the game has if you dont hear it then your just listening for swear words and not actually listening to him. He just doesnt sit there and dwell on the good because if he did we wouldnt have forums dedicated to his video. Hes funny in the way he bashes these games but with all the craziness he spits out he brings good quality reviews of most these games and he does it in way no one does and thats why hes awesome and the rest of you are twats
