zen micro wet

After I got rained on while cycling home I left it to dry for about 24 hours, then put the battery back in and now it doesn't work. It's pretty new, but the creative warranty says it's void 'if you expose it to moisture' and the pc world one that it doesn't apply to 'extreme weather conditions'.

Have i got any chance of sorting it, or do I just have to buy another one?

(This is in England not America, if it makes any difference...)

I would still take the battery out and let it dry, you may have F***ed it up permanately buy not letting at least 3 days to dry (thats usually the least amount) but it was probably screwed up anyway...I do not know to much abotu the inards of a zen micro...but here is what i qould do...let it dry some more, and then try it again...since your warrenty is already screwed (almost all devices like these have color change tabs in them or the battery that change to pink if they get wet, as in cell phobe batteries also) take it apart and see if you see any damage, try to see if you can get any power to it at all...

but sadly it looks as if you might have to buy a new one...

it does get power, it just stalls at the 'creative' screen

I would take it apart and let it dry completely. Even run a hair dryer over it to ensure it's dry. Then retry.

Surely the fact that it doesnt work now means its shorted and therefore permanently broken?

No it may be ok, its all low voltage and some parts still may be wet.

Ive seen completely submerged comps, stereos etc and as long as they are competely dried before power on youd be amazed at the servival rate (around 3/4).

It takes days to properly dry, open all compartments and put a fan on it. Dont rush it.

The fact thats its been powered on before dry may not of hurt it. But the key word here is Patience. Wait at least a few more days in front of a fan.

It's still not working. I will leave it longer to dry, but i wonder if after that, letting the battery run down then charging it up again could help?

of course its still not working, you havent even allowed it to dry properly and now have probably shorted it for good by turning it on beofre oit was properly dry...you impatient g00ber you, have fun buying a new one!

how long do you think it takes to dry?! it wasnt THAT wet, and i have left it under a heater for two days now

also, i have never turned it on. it automatically comes on when you put the battery in (the battery was in when it got wet, obviuosly, but i took it out). it does it itself which is why i wonder if 'resetting it' might help assuming its still dry, but you're right if it's shorted obviously it won't work...

I got a digital camera wet a while ago and it took over a week to get most of the functions back. Oddly enough, the few things that never worked after it came back after about 5 months.

There are online guides on how to take the whole thing apart, that might not be a bad thing to look into. Take it apart and let it dry completely. Its tough to get the inside of these electronics dry without disassempling them.

Did you comletely disassemble it, or just put it under the heater still closed up?

Actually the hair dryer idea is very bad, the high heat can damage (maybe already damaged) solder points and circuitry and even the memory chips

I've had stuff like thaqt happen before. Give it time or go at it with a hair dryer if you are really impatient. It will probably work.

Not if he heats the damn thing with a hair dryer it wont.
