Because it sells?
More precisely, they have to sell a harvested 1-CCD part if they want to have somewhat profitable products in those price ranges.
So until they add more cores per CCX, 6cores are to stay, sadly.
Basically, these volume parts have to be 1-CCD and they probably don't want to move octocore to R5 segment because then the R7 segment would have to be dual-CCD and that would be bad for profitability.

So this means zen 5 X3D isn’t launching till CES?

Fine by me, gives me time to save up for 7800X3D and and an AM5 motherboard.

That WTFtech article made things worse for me :(

Maybe I should have created some private channel somewhere and revealed different numbers to selected users. I won't be getting any more leaks for quite a while :sleepy:
I seen your post quoted in my google feed this morning, I think PC Gamer. IIRC

Edit: Igor is correct, pcgamesn. Sorry I couldn't relocate it and didn't want to it give extra clicks.

A 120W 9700X reminds me of the 65W 3700X / 105W 3800X which was stupid and thought we wouldnt see again. But never underestimate AMD's marketing to force stupid mistakes. Maybe now they will release a 9800X at 105W and a vanilla 9800 at 65W. Oh, and the 65W version will come will a cooler, because reasons.

So what's the point for the non x3d version? It doesn't pass the smell check

Because not everyone is using them for primarily gaming? Seems pretty simple to me. Also it gives something for ODM's to put to use for back to school or whatever.
