Yes, the water temple was horrible, I remember being stuck there for ages. I did eventually get passed though.

Link to the Past is the best hands down. Ocarina is right behind it. I think the people that like OoT more are probably a little younger and it was probably their first Zelda.

TP I really enjoyed. A lot of people have really bashed it, but it was an all around fun game with both new and old themes, monsters, and items. It is well worth the play and I find it to be on the same level as OoT. OoT wins because of nostalgia however.

Play TP, I do not think any true Zelda fan will be disappointed.
