There is one big reason to go the rout of the switch:

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the last game being made for the Wii U.

Many consoles only have a few games at launch. If you consider the launch window to run more than just a few weeks:

Zelda (I got this)
Arms
Bomberman (I got this)
I Am Setsuna is available on the EShop (will get this soon)
You can get Disgaea 5 digital right now with a work around
Has Been Heroes (March 28, I will get this)
Mario Kart 8 with all the DLC (April 28, I will get this)
Rime (May 8, I will get this)
Ultra Street Fighter 2 (May 26, I will get this)

Nintendo has even more indie games coming out soon as well. I do not see any reason for a gamer to not buy a Switch unless they are just not a fan of Nintendo.

Well all of those games you just mentioned, only 2 of them are nintendo games, and they are both on Wii U.

People that aren't huge Zelda fans or if you already have a WiiU, they can wait until the holiday season. There just isn't the library yet unless you're a huge fan. That's why all of us that bought it day one are beta testers. It's missing so much out of the gate with basic features, plus lack of games over than Zelda.

Yeah, get back to testing that thing, you beta testers! If you'll excuse me, I need to get back to Zelda.

Meh. You have 1-2 years of multiplayer support for the Wii U yet. If they were turning off the servers today you'd have more of a point. Of course, that would make me very hesitant to buy the switch.

Zelda looks and runs a little better on the Switch. I want to see what Mario Kart does.

Then there is never really a reason to buy a launch console as there are hardly any games out for it.

I have a Wii U and had Zelda for it as I would have had all the great games for it. I wish it had come out sooner. I like the Wii U.

I would NOT recommend getting a Switch at all if you already have a Wii U and don't care about portability. It's basically a waste of money to do so IMO.

So I've been playing it for two hours and finally getting to the first shrine. Got side tracked right when I started the game.

So I've been playing it for two hours and finally getting to the first shrine. Got side tracked right when I started the game.
When I first started the game and talked to the old man and he marked the map, I somehow fumbled with the controls and deselected the objective so it took the marker off the map. So for like 2-3 hours I was walking around killing groups of enemies like WTF do I do? I climbed to the top of the Temple of Time thinking that is where I had to go and saw a few shrines from up there, but they weren't lit up or anything. Then I went to those shrines and I couldn't get in so I was like WTF????

Then I randomly stumbled upon the tower that opens everything up and finally knew what to do after like 3-4 hours.

I didn't listen to the old man talk that much because I was facepalming at the fact they didn't even have full voice acting in this game so I just wasn't paying much attention to what he said.

Haha that's funny

Even right off the bat you can go do whatever, and it's actually fun....... so far but I'm loving it.

I suspect it's an inevitability, but, as someone who never bought a Wii U, I hope they bring the HD Zelda remakes to the Switch.

I've been going up and down between good and bad... I will hold off on my early review until I put some more time in. Only put in 3hrs maybe so far.

Oh, sure. And while they're at it they'll charge you again to play all the digital games you bought for the Wii U on the Switch.

Playing on a 4K 55" OLED screen here on the wii u version, game looks great to me.
It would look a million times better with at least some anti-aliasing. I can only imagine how good this game would look like in 1080p let alone 4k. There's a ton of jaggies when playing on your TV. It's great game though and art style is great but if we ever got a higher resolution version of this game, it would be awesome because it could definitely use it.

There's also a lot of pop-in rendering in this game too.

I've beat all of the shrines in the beginning map. On my way to the next area now. I've spent a lot of the time in the first area. It's been fun trying to find those special seed guys. I have no idea what they do, but still fun anyway.

The game is a work of art with ambition so great in scale that its reach falls short of its technological grasp. I hope someone jerry rigs a Wii U emulator as good as Dolphin is for the Wii as the prospect of playing this in 4k 60fps with 8x AA would be god like. The Wii U just isn't powerful enough to run this beast.

I hope they make a performance patch to improve the framerate even if it is to tone down the foilage and stuff. I would rather have a slightly more sparse field than a constantly stuttering, relentlessly distracting frame rate. Although the eyesore jaggies are nearly as bad.

Yea it really needs some more optimization. I wouldn't have minded if they kept it @ 720p just to keep the framerate up.

Yeah, the game seems to run arlight on the Switch when operating in 720p portable mode. If there was a way to run it in 720p while docked the game would probably be pretty smooth.

In the switch system settings there's an option for tv resolution. I set mine to output 720p and it seems to run a little better than at the default 1080p. I tested this by running from the room you start the game in and running down thee hill towards the church ruins (vague enough that it shouldn't need a spoiler tag). That part had a massive drops in frame rates, they are still there but closer to what is experienced in handheld mode.

Anyone else want to test as well? I'm just using my eyes so it's not exactly that accurate.
