Zealots, your take?

In reference to *nix zealots and Anti-piracy zealots.

Yea *nix is great and I use it. So YAY, you have 6 machines running slack4.0 all with loads of 0.01 0.02 0.01, WHOOP DE DOO!!
Its like your privileged because you don't use Microsoft. Its rather lame when MS is the only reason you use *nix.

Anti-piracy, OMG its AGAINST THE LAW!!!! Please, until everything you do or have done is 100% legal, you should close your trap. Were criminals and you're newbies who can't get what they want, or old fogies still brainwashed by the government and mass media.

What else do we have? Car Zealots?
"I only use german cars because american cars suck".

Unreal, and when it comes down to it, the zealots are the largest hypocrites.

So your opinion on people who do things because they can, and then act the snob?

Bah, I thought you were gonna talk about starcraft. Then, I thought yo uwere gonna talk about Bin Laden zealots.

Everyone does things because they can. Long as they don't ignorantly argue by stating that everything else sucks, I don't really care. I don't really care anyways...

lol@ sammyson :D

yea zealots are stupid, i HATE zealots! they suck! ;)

seriously, i never trust a zealot/extremist. doesn't matter who's side their on, i don't trust them because they have issues. i mean emotional ones. that's why they're zealots, not because of whatever cause they're fighting for, but because they have emotional problems.

HAHAHAHHAHA! Amiga!

Regarding the topic, I usually don't care. :) Everyone has their own opinion.

<---- hates Jehovah's Witnesses that wake him up at 9am on a Saturday to ask if he knows Jehovah and stuff.

Amigas ruled!

Usually I just invite the jehovah witnesses in for a cup of coffee, cigar and a bath.

LOL :) Hehe cool! You have a way with words jjones.

No, it's because my company runs 300 user accounts through a Linux mail server for the cost of a download. Normally, we would be looking at least $10K (probably up to $25K) to use Microsoft Exchange, not including the damn licensing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anti-zealot zealots and warez-zealots are definitely the worst. Microsoft zealots are funny though. Speaking of Microsoft zealots, anyone seen Ameesh? :p

Burnedout: Your so far from a zealot its not funny. :) You have what they call a REASON. Unlike thoes at home with a couple machines running complaining about the feature/price ratio of windows.
And your right, per seat licensing can get very expensive.

So what are acceptable reasons to prefer a UNIX-compatible system over Windows?

Thanks <blush>! Sorry about sounding a bit crass.

Little story about an acquaintance of mine: He graduated from the University of Texas with a BA in CS. He is currently a level 4 Unix administrator. He had worked as a sys admin for Ross Technology for a number of years.

He doesn't use Windows on any of his three computers. Unix, Linux or Mac only. That's his preference I don't take him as a zealot. Just one realllllllllllllly smart dude! Not because he doesn't use Windows. But because he can work some serious magic with a Unix kernel ;)

I admit. I like Linux and Unix for what they are, but also use Windows. I plead the fifth. Please, don't flame me too hard 'oh Unix and Linux brothers.

So you're saying, no one who has done anything immoral/illegal can complain about someone else's illegal/immoral behavior? So if I beat your mother to death just because I wanted to, you'd have to "close your trap" just because you're a warez whore?!?!

Do you ever make sense?

This is a funny thread.
A zealot is someone fanantically devoted to his cause.

Sammy Son was spouting off about zealots in another thread about software piracy. What is funny about it is that he couldn't make a meaningful point there so he started a new thread solely to rant about zealots.

Sounds like a zealot to the cause of pointless rambling about zealotry to me...

Anyone remember a while back where some guy on the newsgroups started blasting people for not buying Photoshop, while he worked night and day for like months on end to afford a copy? Ahh, the flaming was fast and furious.

I think of piracy the same way I think about owning a firearm in the States. Hell, everyone else has one/does it, so you better do it as well just to stay competitive! ;)

<< Bah, I thought you were gonna talk about starcraft. >>

LOL! Hey, I'll take on your zealots with my firebats/medics any day bucko. ;)

Mwinding: My point was made numerous time, you even proved it for me

It was that you are a hypocrite in action. You grill people for breaking the law, and then admit that you are guilty of it. Thats my point, period. You are a criminal, come join us in the general population

And please, type my damned nick the way I intended it to be.

I was not getting on people's cases for pirating software. Rather I was pointing out that some of the reasons given were weak. Please show me explicity where I was a hypocrite. I simply pointed out to all the self-righteous twits with an over-developed sense of entitlement that despite their juvenile reasons for pirating software, they were still breaking the law. Anyone who says they do it because Bill Gates can afford it is a hypocrite. If you read the whole thread, you will be able to figure out my reasons from other posts I made. In short, it is easy and there are no consequences. I am very honest and open about my reasons. There is no hypocrisy about it.
