Guys I need some help from both gamers and people who know well about Computer Graphics rendering time. I just recently got an AIW 9800 Raedeon Pro (preaty badass deal, 90 below retail and 4 dollors cheaper than the reg version). But I need to know, which processor and Mobo to get. I can currently spend only about 400 to 450 on this upgrade for a new processor. Which processor should I go for, Xeon or Opteron or the regular sweet of cards. Please help

i would get an athlon64

or if you want a dual cpu setup then the opteron is by far the better choice over a xeon

400 to 450 would mean you can buy an athlon 64 3200+ (but not quite enough dough for an FX 51).

Meh.. Id wait for some of the new 64 FX's and motherboards, as well as nForce3 250's.. But if you insist on getting now, get an FX 51, and nVentiv Mach II and OC it to 2.8ghz like THG did :p

why wait for the nforce3 250? what does it have that the k8t800 doesnt?

and he said $450 was his budget for a cpu, the athlonFX is way over that budget

I'd only wait for the 250's because there will be more selection by then I would think, and some better features as well.. like Soundstorm. Also, the K8T800's dont have PCI/AGP locked, or multiplier adjustments.

Heh.. I think everyone overlooked one board.. From Abit: the KV8-MAX3.Its got just about everything.. 6 Channel SATA RAID, Gigabit LAN, 2 SPDIF's, uGuru, OTES, IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, 6 Channel Audio, SoftMenu III, Secure IDE, Debugger LCD.. etc etc

Review here :)

$209.00 @ Newegg

uhh check again :) the k8t800 does support agp/pci lock (and most of the k8t800 boards have it) as for multipliers if i remember right its also supported and should be made available with a bios update

ive seen bios's that have the option (but they never work) ie the new abit board has the option to adjust the bios, but it doesnt work

and ive read a couple places that the multiplier just isnt adjustable

i guess time will tell what the actual story is
