Ze added rant of the "-1 pt teacher"

I do great on a powerpoint presentation, even my friend knew we would do a fantastic job. Well... I go and check my score for the assignment... -1 point... WTF... My other assignment, was building a replica of a greek temple... -1 point...

So a friend of mine in the same class checks all the grades, and no one apparently got a full score... Even the overachievers didn't...

Wow.

Pobody's Nerfect. Anyhow, some professors absolutely refuse to give full credit, citing that such a grade would be warranted only by a flawless assignment, and since lil' Jimmy is obviously not God, he can't possibly attain a 12/12.

I had a teacher like that back in high school english. She was very awesome, but I remember on one of my assignments, she wrote or said something along the lines of, "there wasn't anything wrong with it, great job." So of course my friends and I asked her if there was nothing wrong, then why would I "only" have a 95? Her response was that she'd never give out a perfect score on anything.

We still liked her, though.

I don't remember if in high school if you get to fill out evaluations at the end of the year or halfway through or anything, but if you do, make sure you write about how you felt about this then. But do it in a mature, intelligent sounding way, and maybe she'll actually listen. That doesn't really help you now, though.

And I definitely agree that you should ask her about her reasoning for taking points off. Find out what you did wrong, and make sure you fix that for next time. Eventually, she won't have anything to take points off for.

Good luck.

I've seen those teachers.

And, occasionally, I'm one of them 🙂
But, that's only because I don't take off points for careless arithmetic errors on pre-calculus and calculus tests. Plus, god forbid a calculus student forgets +C on integration problems. However, the "-1" for calc and pre-calc students doesn't get them bent out of shape; it's more of a joke between me and my students. And, they accept it (because, as I always point out to them, I could just start taking off 1 point every time they forget "+C" or for every stupid arithmetic mistake, but then, I have to take the time to find the mistakes.

Why don't you ASK what the points were taken off for?

It's much easier and far more cathartic to just pointlessly rant about it on ATOT.

I don't think he'd like to explain why he gave no full credits to all of his students individually.
