I thought this deal might come in handy for people like me who are planning to voltmod their 7900GT. Dealer is xpcgear.com but the price is right.

directron.com has it for 42.99 if you'd like to avoid CA tax or order from a slightly more reputable company

The price after tax in CA is still less than the 42.99 by like a dollar or so. Directron is slightly more reputable I suppose.

IF and it's a big IF, you have great case airflow. If not, you'll end up heating up the inside of your case big time versus something that exhausts out the back.

I'm not liking the NVSilencer Rev3 because of its use of thermal pads that are extremely adhesive on the memory. You pretty much have to cut the cooler off your card if you want to guarantee no damage to your card (some people have literally pulled memory modules out), so you're out the cost of a Silencer if you ever need to RMA your video card (I searched and searched, and NO ONE has 1.5mm thick thermal pads for sale, even Arctic Cooling).

The Thermalright V-1 (Ultra) is a great cooler, but it doesn't work in all circumstances (especially with an XP or SI-120 installed).

So, this is a great solution that overcomes the obstacles of the others that I mentioned. 🙂

If you own a new nVIDIA card besides GTXs,
this is a definite top choice. Heatpipes, huge fan,
pure Cu, and great looks. Great deal at xPC and
it's STILL on.

Most nVIDIA cards do not have rear exhaust or adequate cooling for
minimal OCs, so you will not notice temps go UP at with the VF900-Cu.
ATi cards with stock exhaust / NV Silencers are basically the only VGA
coolers that MAY show better case temps.

I'm still thinking of getting this cooler for my x1900xt - I don't like the leafblower fan when under load (idle is fine) and the temps...! 80+ degrees C under load? I want something to keep it cooler!

I don't think airflow in the case would be a problem, I have a 140mm fan in the back of the case 😛

i actually already have this cooler, just debating if i should install it and voiding warranty, what if my card goes wrong? then i'd just lose it and have to buy a new one?

Don't know about that...

BFG 7800GT OC (425/1050) with stock cooler, 46 degree idle
eVGA 7800GT CO SE (470/1200) with VF700 @ 9 - 10v... 39 degrees idle.

VF700 cooler btw.

It honestly depends on your case. If your case sucks with airflow already, the NV Silencer will be a lot better. I have a 120mm fan on the side of my case blowing in at 60 CFM of air onto my graphics card and so the VF700 is fed cool outside air.
