Zalman VF3000F

HA!

I just ordered pair of these from Amazon last week for my gtx 480's and today I submitted a refund request.

If you're using your card with the stock fan settings, then this cooler may show an improvement. But I use MSI Afterburner (which is free) to control my card's stock fan speed as the temps go up.

Using Afterburner I can keep my cards cooler with the stock fans. The Zal fan's won't spin up fast enough.

Running Crysis, setting maxed, res at 2560 X 1600, and fps ~50, the stock fan keeps the cards right around 75c. With the Zal's on, same settings, I quit playing when the cards hit 85c. It was quite apparent that stock was better.

Also the Zal will take up 2 slots on it's own. Meaning with stock fans my 480 takes up 2 slots and with the Zal it takes up 3 slots.

So, hands down, I'd recommend Afterburner which is free to these $75 fans.

You are doing something wrong. I just installed one on my 480 & it doesn't go above 56 degrees after an hour of solid gaming(BFBC2). It idles at 33 degrees.
I highly recommend the VF3000F.

I didn't try it with BC2 because BC2 isn't a good test subject. I use a G13 and I monitor my gpu temp, usage, and fan speed while I'm in game.

Watching the numbers while playing, BC2 seems to be poorly optimized for the 400 series cards as the gpu usage is only around 50~60%. Crysis on the other hand is right up there at the 96~99% usage on the 480's.

I was getting 80 % usage. I will try it with Crysis.

*edit-
Ok, I just tried Crysis & I had 98-99% gpu usage & my minimum temps were 46 & max temp was 60, measured using Afterburner.
Definitely something wrong on your end. Plus, I used AS5 on the gpu & it hasn't even cured yet( installed the cooler at 10 AM today).

Here is my current oc with the Zalman on my 480. I ran Furmark for a few minutes & the temps never went over 78 degrees. Voltage is maxed & I have a 150MHz increase on the core clock. In game(Metro 2033 & Crysis) it never goes above 64 degrees.
After the AS5 cures, I am pretty sure I can push it even further.
