Zalman VF-700

As some of you know in my other thread I used way too much AS5 , but thats besides the point.

I was wondering if you think that its worth getting the Zalman VF-700. I have heard that it'll drop temps be 10*c, and since I'm already putting AS5 on the GPU might as well get this too. I figure I already took my 7800GT apart, why not go all out on cooling.

Also another question. I have an Asus A8N-32 SLI Deluxe mobo and am wondering if two of these will fit asI have 2 of them (SLI!!!). Motherboard Link. I think Asus has enough room for it I just want to make sure.

P.S. I would also get it for the noise reduction but the temp dropping is the main one.

Make sure you have good ventilation, otherwise all it will do is swirl hot air around in your case.

My case has good ventilation. I was choosing this or the NV Silencer from Artic Cooling but the Nv Silencers are too big for SLI setup (since I need to fit a sound card in there too ya know).
So should I just go ahead and order them?

yeah I remember your AS5 incident. I LOVE MY ZALMAN VF-700Cu. IT'S SOO SWEET!!! my temps dropped

from: 56C idle, 79C load

-to-: 43C idle, 54C load

And with the window wide open on a 20 degree day with a fan blowing the air from outside straight into the case with the side off,

30C idle, 40C load WHILE OC/ED to 612/1255

3dmark05 score of 4055 that day...

This is a 6600GT BTW.

It's an awesome cooler, and I highly reccomend it to anyone. It is the best $30 a geek can spend.

EDIT: I saw that you have SLI'ed GPUs, theese are dual slot coolers remember, I don't know if two will fit side-by-side.

haha, i love doing that. it makes you feel so good that everything is so cold and fast. but then you realize that its kind of cold. so, you shut the window, then you feel sad.

Well I ordered it, but I'm sure it will fit since the Asus Mobo has two slots inbetween the GPU's. Now the only thing I have to worry about is my X-Fi Plat. Fitting.

i had the zalman on the top card and nv silencer on the bottom

it fits, but not without some tweaking

Did they have the zalman running at low speed on that review? I find it hard to believe it would cool worse than the silencer.

So do you think having 2x120mm fans and 2x90mm fans and a 120mm fan in the PSU (makes total of 3 120mm fans) would be considered to "have enough airflow" for the Zalmans (remember there's 2 of them).

In my case I have a 12cm intake fan, a 12cm exhaust and a 8cm exhaist fan. Also the PSU had 2x8cm fans, but they barely push any air. I havent tried to measure the cpu and gpu load temps independenly, but there's no doubt the gpu raises the case temps a bit because the mobo chipset fan spins faster when gaming than when just stess testing the cpu alone. However, my cpu heatsink is a zalman 7000alcu, which does a good job keeping the temps under control, so I wouldnt worry about case temps if you have a decent cpu cooler.

I got a SI-120+120mm fan (90cfm at 12v).

I would RMA it. Even if it works as is, you didnt get the product in the condition it was advertised, and shouldnt have to settle for a damaged product when you paid for a new one.

too bad it doesnt work on the 6600gt agp. the only one that does is the zalman. darn.

And the worst part is I got it from newegg. Now I don't really even think its there fault, but there is a tear in the Zalman box and a big tear in the box UPS delivered in.

one time, i bought 2 control arms that i was going to put into my car, these things basically keep the wheels on. so, i assumed that they would be nice and well packaged. when fedex delivered it, they were litterally sticking out of holes in the box, bent, and the box was flattened and lopsided, like a car had run over it. it was actually kind of funny looking. if you are around when they deliver, always check the box for damage, if its there, just refuse delivery. im sure newegg RMA isnt that bad, ive never used it before though.

In my SuperLanBoy w/2x120mm's the NV5 Rev 3 does better under load than a VF700 on my 7800GT OC'd. Idle was slightly lower on the VF700, like 36-38C instead of 40C; but load temps were a lot better. I don't think load gets much over 60C if that w/NV5, passed 70C w/VF700. Its all about ventilation w/VF700, all it does is swirl hot air

Yea, they get the job done, only problem is it takes a good week before I see another Zalman.

I'm installing one of them and was wondering how do I remove the black memory cooler. It cools 4 of the RAM moduals and I can't seem to get it off. It's not like it uses scres but it does use these black plastic things. So how do I get it off?
