Zalman says NB47J Northbridge cooler fits A8N-SLI

My concern is how well a PCIe 1x card will fit, with or without this new heat sink. If my Audigy 2 was a PCIe card, it would be right on top of the chipset fan. Rumor is that the Audigy 5 will support PCIe, and if it does I'm getting one. I guess it could be plugged in the second video card slot, but that would prevent use of SLI.
 
Will the Thermalright NB-1C Pure Copper Northbridge Cooler fit on the ASUS A8N SLI DELUXE ?

Does anybody have some pictures of the Thermalright cooler installed ?

Does the Thermalright NB-1C Pure Copper Northbridge Cooler give lower Nforce4 temperatures ?

Yes original Coolermaster heatsink fits on it. It's 40x40x11 mm as far as i remember and it has attached cooler with 4 screws. I used one of these screws. I had to bend 1 fin of Zalman a little.
Asus probe shows max. 33C mobo temperature now and heatsink is slightly warm.
 
Thanks net, any reason you didn't go with the Coolermaster heatsink?
And, is the Coolermaster fan a significant amount more quiet?
 
I simply prefer much bigger and better Zalman's heatsink. Coolermaster's one looks only a little better than asus one. I didn't chek if it was good enought to cool the chipset.
Cooler is quiet and in closed case almost can't be heard. I can't imagine going back to asus "heli" one 🙂
 
I know this is sort of off topic, but it seems as though you guys could really help me. I'm considering a Zalman ZM-NB32J for my current system, which has an nForce3 Ultra (MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum) and a rather loud chipset fan. Do you think I'd be better off with the NB47J? I also have an Athlon64 3200+ OC'd to 2.2GHz (so not too big of an OC). Thanks.

Just installed the NB47J Northbridge heatsink on my brand new A8N SLI DELUXE. The Air from my ASUS EN6600GT stock cooler is cooling the heatsink to an ok level 😉.

I'm about to buy a Zalman VF700 CU cooler for my GT card, it seem though skinner had a problem with using both Zalman cooling solutions but his card seem to have the GPU more to the back compared to a ASUS EN6600GT.

Have anybody installed both Zalman solutions in the same machine like skinner ?

Skinner, what kind of Graphics card do you have ?

 
At first I couldn't even put the video card (with the VF700) in because of the first 2 rows on the NB47J. You may have to play around with the NB47J like Skinner did or can try bending/cutting off any fins that interfere with the VF700.
 
As I wrote earlier, SKinners GPU seem to be more to the back of the card.

I'm not that crazy about pushing the BV47J around it sits fine now 😉

Was it some of the cobber/alu fins or was is the fan it self that interfered with the NB47J ?

 
I just installed a CoolerMaster PAC-P01 heatsink.
It's very much like the Zalman, but it's slightly shorter and has a flat top so it shouldn't interfere with any card.

Here is a picture with it installed and a Leadtek 6600Gt:

It does get VERY warm, but it is a much bigger/better heatsink than the one included with the board. I hope it's ok. Another thing I like about this heatsink vs the Zalman is that it's the exact same blue as the other plastic parts/slots on the board 😉
 
Re Zalman VF700 with NB47J

When I installed VF700 on a BFG 6800GT OC I installed it per Zalman Vf700 instructions (pins NW to SE) and clipped about 9 fins on NB47. I figured getting the VF700 fins pointed right at chipset would give maximum airflow. I had the motherboard out anyway so dinking around with the Zalman and insert/clip/reinsert/clip.... wasn't too big a deal. I would not recommend doing clipping with MB/NB47 installed.

I bet you Jdogg's method is probably as effective and a lot easier. Even though the memory chips aren't covered as well with his method I find that the memory isn't running very hot anyway.

I don't have a temp probe and the ASUS probe readings are not accurate but the NB47J is now warm to touch whereas before it was a one second scorcher.

It's a great combo esp if you put VF700 fan pin into either the a8n's CPU or CHA1 fan connector. I run 6800GT fan at 50% RPM using Speedfan and when CPU temp rises (during games) it automatically kicks up to 100%. VERY QUIET!
 
It's a BFG 6800GT. I was getting high temps before on the card (62-62C idle, 85-86 under load) and decided to get the VF700. Now it's sitting at 51-52C idle and goes up to 65-66 under load. I haven't checked the NB47J to see if it's benefiting from the air flow yet.
 
So, installing a VF700 onto the graphics card is producing air that blows onto the NB47J? Is it a substantial amount of air or fairly insignificant? Also, do the Arctic Cooler NV Silencers help out in this same way or is the VF700 a bit better in this aspect?

Edit: If anyone has a picture with a NV Silencer installed as well as the NB47J, that'd be cool to see how the fan aligns with the NB47J
 
I don't want to pull my computer apart to change the HS, so I am going to go with 1 of 2 options. I can just remove the fan and screw a nice 4cm fan onto the HS. Or install another 12cm fan on the 2nd case side vent and use some ducts to attach right to the HS.
Im leaning towards the 4cm fan idea. It runs at about 3000rpm, is 1cm larger than the stock fan, and only 1cm thick. It will also be really small, almost like stock.

I'm running a PNY Quadro 1300. I needed dual DVI and I've seen the 1200 run, so I went that way instead of the 6600GT. It's GPU is very far back, more so than any 6600 or other card I've seen. You shouldn't have any problems with a GPU further away.

I was having both VF700 Fan and fins touching, but dorking with the angle of the NB47 fixed both. As a side note, I am running the VF700 off the Chipset fan power. It is spinning that at about 2812 RPM (quite fast) but here are the specs:

CPU: 39C
MB: 37C
GPU: 36C
Ambient: 32C

I've been working on exchanging fans on my SwiftTech CPU heatsink, of which the SilenX 80mm 14db rocks all over a Papst 80mm I have dropping the CPU 5C spinning 400 more RPM quieter. The reason I bring this up is I think with the added airflow, I might move the VF700 power back to the GPU power.... Choices.

I tried the 4cm fan idea, but I could NOT find screws that were long enough and thin enough to work.
