Well, I bought the Zalman surround headphones yesterday and already have issues:

Connecting them to the audio jacks was a pain to begin with. The Realtek sound manager would squeak about incorrect plugs all the time. It seems it believes the rear spk jack is a microphone. It also recognises the side spk jack to be connected even though there is no jack for side spk on Zalmans. But I managed to get by this by telling the sound manager what I actually plugged in.
The actual config is now:
center/sub - empty - rear
mic - front - empty

The sound seems to be working correctly now except for some minor problems I can't seem to solve:
1) There is significant noise when there is no signal. I never noticed such noise on my regular stereo speakers. It is unnoticeable when there is signal since the signal is always louder. Mic is "Disabled" in windows audio properties.
2) There seems to be a problem with sound levels among the various jacks. While testing the speakers in sound manager I never hear the SUB test tone. Also I had to decrease front spk volume to about 5% to make them at least nearly as quiet as the other spks are. All the other channels are at 100%.
3) The Windows Volume control utility always displays 5.1 volume controls grayed even though I have the speaker configuration set to 6Ch in Realtek utility and to 5.1 in Windows Audio settings. I can move the sliders though and it works.
4) Additionally the "Output analog and SPDIF" option (the 3rd) in realtek SPDIF settings seems to "vanish" on occasions or should I say - seems to appear on occasions. I had the fortune to set it one time and now it works even though it appears as though no option is selected for SPDIF output in utility. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my setup and how to fix it? Oh, using latest BIOS, drivers and whatnot. Just upgraded all of that a couple of weeks ago.
